Single player experience?
Is the game playable single player? I don't enjoy playing games with other people so this would be a deal breaker for me. I don't want to purchase and find out that the creatures are so tough to beat that I require the help of other people.

Yes it is. In fact the AI team mates you can bring are arguably better than most people online to the point of cheating.

Thank you for answering my question. That is great to hear. For me there is nothing worse than playing games with online people. They just ruin my fun.

almost all reviews are saying its a really fun single player game..as compared to multiplayer.

Singleplayer actually offers more content than online, since the open world isn't available for the cooperative mode.

Cool I just bought it. Seems to be getting good reviews on the PS4 so I imagine the PC reviews will follow similarly. It does look like the kind of game right up my alley :)

Plus added support for the series so hopefully we see more of Koei's games come to PC.

Does anybody know how long this game is?

I just bought it assuming it would be co-op focused as the previous title. I'll have to try it, but the fact that the open world can't be played in multiplayer might make me refund it ... maybe. :(
EDIT: Still looks like a fun game I'll probably want to keep, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm heavily disappointed. Not being able to play the most prominent new feature in online co-op.... :/

Single player: Largely open world, you spend a lot of time just running around a pretty large map killing small and medium oni, with the occasional large oni that shows up (Enemies respawn, so you'll always be fighting things as you run around), you can also do the typical Monster Hunter style lobby mission, where you just get put right into a fight against a certain Oni/onis.

The difference? In single player you can take AI with you that aren't useless like felynes, but they're too useful. If you're like me, and you don't care TOO much about the single player level of difficulty, just take 3 AI with you for everything, and every fight will be incredibly fast. Basically, you can scale the difficulty by taking more or less AI with you. Want it harder? Only bring one or two. Want it actually hard? Go solo everywhere.

For the most part, the single player has been enjoyable, I've spent MOST of my play time in it, just running around making sure I didn't miss anything. (I missed one collectable in the first area and it's killing me that I can't find it.)

The multiplayer:
It's only the lobby style fights, there's no open world for multiplayer. There is however an endless tower mode where you just kill things until you can't kill things anymore, this is pretty awful if you bring AI, and honestly I think endless ruins exploration is where the "end game" will be for me in multiplayer, I'm only on phase 4 in multiplayer but the fights are still REALLY easy.
