Why does it take so long to load addon content?

Every time I start up the game I have to leave it open for 1-2 hours for mods to load before I can play maps with friends but they seem to just get in instantly

The game checks every mod from the workshop for updates, and basically redownloads them all each time.
The more mods you have, the longer it'll spend downloading them all.
If you want mods to instantly load up, go to your l4d2 directory under Steam > Steamapps > common > Left 4 dead 2 > left4dead2 > addons > Workshop
From there, move your mods (only the vpk file is necessary) to the previous addons folder, and now they will be there instantly when you start up (just remember to unsubscribe from the mods in the workshop)

It entirely depends on whether or not each individual addon author made an addoninfo.txt file, if they didn't the addon will still load but you can no longer enable or disable it.

Lazy ass mfers if you as me.

Where was that file located?
Do most modders make that file?

Most modders SHOULD be making that file.

As for the location itself, it's always inside the VPK so it's not something your everyday player will encounter at all.
