Rewards are duplicated across all players, so it's not like them joining takes anything away from anyone else. If it's the end of the mission, then you would've had the same experience whether or not someone joined at that point.
And hey, if all those people want to do is watch numbers go up without actually playing the game, then they're just wasting their own time on a game they clearly don't enjoy. Save data is stored locally also, so if they really wanted to, they could just modify their save files to give themselves a million of everything, and then they'd have no reason to ever touch the game again.
That said though, the mission timer on the server browser does seem to be incorrect every now & then. I can name one extreme example where I joined a mission that the server browser stated was only ~1 minute in-progress, only to find that the host had literally just completed the last objective as soon as I landed.
Besides, you can easily prevent ranodms from joining you at any point during a mission by opening the Esc screen and then selecting the "Private/Friends-only" checkbox.
The actual solution to your problem is to lock the lobby so people can't join mid-way through the round to troll. If someone plays the whole mission as a team, then they deserve to call the drop pod whenever they want - the host isn't allowed to hold the mission hostage to complete the secondary objective, another reason why kicking gets disabled.
Some lucky guy got a free meteor and Kursite the other day just for joining my mission for the last 5 minutes.
The cosmetic grind is real. Sharing is caring.
You already said yourself if a dwarf joins right at the end they should not share in the spoils which is probably one of the most hateful and disgusting things i have ever heard come from a dwarf so i can just imagine you would do the same if they did not put a platform where you want or a zipline to your needs, ultimate toxicity behaviour.
If i get a drop in at the end of a match i congratulate them for their easy win :D, nobody loses out on anything and someone got some easy stuff, who cares if they earned it, missions done someone might as well get something out of the free dwarf space.
