Make kick players available after completing the objectives.
Title says all.
I'm tired of playing with random players who suddenly join at the end of the game and don't do ♥♥♥♥ to help with the game and can't kick them because the option is locked. It's unfair for those who really played through the match.
Or maybe add some penalty, like halven the rewards or something like that.
And even for those who get afk and we don't have to wait X minutes till the escape pod flies out.

I've seen a grand total of 1 player who stood around afk in all the time I've played DRG. Part of that might be because unless you defend that player they tend to die fast and it might happen offscreen, and it is rather hard to judge whether a dead player is actually afk or not. And I never complain about players late-joining and helping me finish the mission faster and easier or acting as bug bait during the escape sequence.

*shrug*

Rewards are duplicated across all players, so it's not like them joining takes anything away from anyone else. If it's the end of the mission, then you would've had the same experience whether or not someone joined at that point.

And hey, if all those people want to do is watch numbers go up without actually playing the game, then they're just wasting their own time on a game they clearly don't enjoy. Save data is stored locally also, so if they really wanted to, they could just modify their save files to give themselves a million of everything, and then they'd have no reason to ever touch the game again.

That said though, the mission timer on the server browser does seem to be incorrect every now & then. I can name one extreme example where I joined a mission that the server browser stated was only ~1 minute in-progress, only to find that the host had literally just completed the last objective as soon as I landed.

That used to be the case a long time ago and it was abused by kick-happy hosts; the current system is likely the best compromise available.

Besides, you can easily prevent ranodms from joining you at any point during a mission by opening the Esc screen and then selecting the "Private/Friends-only" checkbox.

If afk, then a driller C4 would be appropriate.

In the past, this was an option, and it was TERRIBLE. Trolls would host lobbies, have everyone do the objective, call the drop pod, and just as the mission was over they would kick everyone. It happened so much that the devs prevented kicking after the primary objective.

The actual solution to your problem is to lock the lobby so people can't join mid-way through the round to troll. If someone plays the whole mission as a team, then they deserve to call the drop pod whenever they want - the host isn't allowed to hold the mission hostage to complete the secondary objective, another reason why kicking gets disabled.

Yep, that happened a lot to me when I joined randoms. It's sad to see how many trolls play co-op games, and it's better that the devs disallowed it.

Then make your game private at the end.
Aratorin Dec 31, 2023 @ 5:20am
Funny, I do the opposite sometimes. If it's been 5 minutes or so, and things are going well with nobody joining, I make my game private, but if I find an event or something, I save it till the end and open my game back up for people to join.

Some lucky guy got a free meteor and Kursite the other day just for joining my mission for the last 5 minutes.

The cosmetic grind is real. Sharing is caring.

Toxic much ?, there is a reason they do not add this, because people like you will wait until the end of the match and kick just before they get in the pod, either thinking it is funny or to punish dwarves who have not performed to your liking.

You already said yourself if a dwarf joins right at the end they should not share in the spoils which is probably one of the most hateful and disgusting things i have ever heard come from a dwarf so i can just imagine you would do the same if they did not put a platform where you want or a zipline to your needs, ultimate toxicity behaviour.

I think it just can be a little bit funny to get a drop-in player at that time, have been that person myself like 5-10 times on ~600 missions, so i don't see it as very common since most games fill up to 4 people before the mission is complete, and people usually don't leave just like that unless you are an ***hole and kicking people steadily from your games for dying too much or something.

If i get a drop in at the end of a match i congratulate them for their easy win :D, nobody loses out on anything and someone got some easy stuff, who cares if they earned it, missions done someone might as well get something out of the free dwarf space.

I would definitely add the option where only the host can activate the Recall Button to end a Mission. That would solve some of the chaos of other players. Maybe also include a special "Mule Exit Priority Protocol" that means the host's Mule Beacon takes priority once objectives are complete.

And then the host goes afk.

Not a good idea, devs REALLY don't want to give the host the power to hold the mission hostage by refusing to start the mule. Once the mission is done, everyone has the right to call the drop pod. They put in the work; they deserve the option of a completed mission without going after risky secondaries or other events. If a host really wants that much control, they can download a mod for it.
