Now that this technology exists, it really should have a little pipe that leads to the pod. It doesn't even have to be a buildable pipe like in the refinery mission, it could just be a simple tube that automatically comes out of the fuel cells and finds its way along the terrain to the drop pod.
Either way, a good suggestion. The new gamemodes honestly make the existing gamemodes feel... well, boring, in terms of how much it feels like you're doing. Which isn't exactly BAD. If I want a simple mission, I go to Morkite missions. Sometimes I want simple. But Salvage certainly lies in this awkward middle-grounds area where it feels like there should be more... but isn't.
As a final note, I think if we make it like the refinery mission where you have to build a pipe, the Uplink should work the same way, just for consistency (since the Uplink and Fuel Cells events are currently the same thing basically, if you change one, you should change the other I think). But maybe it doesn't have to be a pipeline leading to the drop pod, it could be a set of wires you build leading to... like, a radio tower or something? Or the drop pod, I guess. Maybe they could add a tiny step where you have to find the broken parts of a radio tower and assemble it, wouldn't be too different than repairing the mini-Mules.
Additionally I think any big ticket enemy like that should prioritize the dwarfs first and the objective they're protecting second so that they act more as harassment to get you away from the objective and thus open it up to being attacked by swarms of lesser enemies while you're busy dealing with the big lad.
A detonator requires too much caution and kiting to deal with consistently to be something that can just spawn like 10 feet away from Doretta and immediately hone in on her and require a dwarf to basically run in front of it going "HEY STOMP ME INSTEAD" while clapping and dancing and whistling and shooting at it to maybe, if they're lucky, get it to draw aggro to them instead.
Other than that, I feel like there's a lot of ways they could go back and improve the old missions to bring them up to snuff with the new ones.
I think the morkite mining mission should remain as it is, though, because it's the most straight forwards one and it's intended to be as such.
However, it would be nice to at least have markers on the terrain scanner for the deposits so that if you want to just finish the mission you don't have to wander around a massive cave for over an hour.
