Add pipes to Salvage refueling?
So, with the addition of pipe building to the game, and the amount of complaints I've seen of Salvage being repetitive I was thinking, why not change the last part of Salvage?

Keep the Uplink as is, then when the refueling cell comes in, make it land much further from the Drop Pod, somewhere out in the level; then have us build a Pipeline with the new pipe mechanics to the Fuel cell, then you activate it and have to defend the pipeline, not the fuel cell itself. (Possibly both? Not sure how that would play out.)

Thoughts? Would it spice up the second phase of Salvage a bit? Is it stealing too much from the other mode? Would only having one pipe to defend be boring? Is Salvage fine the way it is? Just spit balling here, I'm open to concerns, suggestions, and alternative ideas.

I want there to be a pipe connecting it just for the sake of it making sense. I mean, how does it actually "refuel" the drop pod at all? I feel like the new pipeline mission basically became an idea when the devs figured out how to make adaptive pipe models that could bend/twist in different ways and expand as you built them. This probably wasn't possible back in the day when Salvage was introduced, so they couldn't make the code to program a pipe that would follow the terrain back to the pod, then animate it to build.

Now that this technology exists, it really should have a little pipe that leads to the pod. It doesn't even have to be a buildable pipe like in the refinery mission, it could just be a simple tube that automatically comes out of the fuel cells and finds its way along the terrain to the drop pod.

Either way, a good suggestion. The new gamemodes honestly make the existing gamemodes feel... well, boring, in terms of how much it feels like you're doing. Which isn't exactly BAD. If I want a simple mission, I go to Morkite missions. Sometimes I want simple. But Salvage certainly lies in this awkward middle-grounds area where it feels like there should be more... but isn't.

As a final note, I think if we make it like the refinery mission where you have to build a pipe, the Uplink should work the same way, just for consistency (since the Uplink and Fuel Cells events are currently the same thing basically, if you change one, you should change the other I think). But maybe it doesn't have to be a pipeline leading to the drop pod, it could be a set of wires you build leading to... like, a radio tower or something? Or the drop pod, I guess. Maybe they could add a tiny step where you have to find the broken parts of a radio tower and assemble it, wouldn't be too different than repairing the mini-Mules.

I have nothing against loosing missions ... I just plainly hate it, when the game puts in a enemy that I have to kite to evade. And guess what, the Mission Objective is to stand still in one spot ... I would call that at the edge of unfair.
But yeah I know in theory the guy the Detonator aims for, could run out and guide it away from whatever the point is that you have to defend. It is just a tad little bit on the hard side, to figure out who that Detonator is following ... maybe adding a Debuff visible to the player followed would help, I don't know.

But yeah, I would greatly love it, if they go back and take a look at the Salvage Missions. Maybe make part A still be "Protect the Spot" ... but do something else for part B, would help with the diversity.
This ain't really what the thread is for but I actually like the idea of something to show which player currently has the detonator's attention and, ideally, would like to have something like that for the oppressor and the dreadnought as well so that you can coordinate with your teammates better, especially in pub matches where you have to wordlessly communicate.

Additionally I think any big ticket enemy like that should prioritize the dwarfs first and the objective they're protecting second so that they act more as harassment to get you away from the objective and thus open it up to being attacked by swarms of lesser enemies while you're busy dealing with the big lad.
A detonator requires too much caution and kiting to deal with consistently to be something that can just spawn like 10 feet away from Doretta and immediately hone in on her and require a dwarf to basically run in front of it going "HEY STOMP ME INSTEAD" while clapping and dancing and whistling and shooting at it to maybe, if they're lucky, get it to draw aggro to them instead.

Other than that, I feel like there's a lot of ways they could go back and improve the old missions to bring them up to snuff with the new ones.
I think the morkite mining mission should remain as it is, though, because it's the most straight forwards one and it's intended to be as such.
However, it would be nice to at least have markers on the terrain scanner for the deposits so that if you want to just finish the mission you don't have to wander around a massive cave for over an hour.

very clever idea, i do wish that the other gamemodes would have some complexity added to them to let them stand up to the two newest ones. this sounds exactly like the kind of shot in the arm that salvage ops needs
