why DRG not popular like before
This masterpiece used to have 30K daily active on steam....

DRG only ever held player counts that high during the weeks immediately after a major content drop. That's normal behavior, as people who have grown tired of the game come back to check on what's new, discover that no amount of new content will revitalize their desire to play, and leave again.

Outside of those weeks, it's always been a fairly stable 6-10k depending on the time of day and the day of the week.
And? It's still a fantastic game with a decently active playerbase.
Its still a little dry right now but tbh I'm still enjoying myself with randoms.

People need to stay off SteamDB and stop watching the player count statistics.
Seriously.
The lack of news might be a reason. There's nothing to talk about so people move on. We don't even know if the guys who made last season will do more of them.
Is DRG a masterpiece anymore, though? The game experience used to be really tight and cohesive back when the seasons first started, but the constant stream of mediocre, disconnected content since then has been diluting the quality.

GSG took a great game, and through years of polish, made it a good game.
Time is merciless to all.... and as people unlock the content they want, the momentum and reason to play slows down because DRG isn't going to add any significant content drops for a long time. Many people think the weapons we have now are the ONLY weapons we will ever have going into the future. But without more stuff to experiment with, why would people keep logging in day after day? Eventually the game has been played and the fun has been had. Once the game reaches a final state, the only reason people would have to log into this game is that they are NEW players who never tried this game before.

As friendly as the Deep Rock Galactic Community is, they aren't evangelists. They don't insist people play and try the game. You don't see them rolling into conventions with their computer rigs set up for public play. There isn't a huge number of kids wanting to play this game like Fortnite.

There is a reason Ghost Ship Games is already working on Rogue Core: They are too afraid to directly add significant content to DRG anymore. We might see new Biomes and enemies... new resources and such... but they aren't going to give the PLAYERS more options.

I still think Subclasses would be the best way to expand this game, but there are so many people who would rather the game DIE than it grow into something bigger to explore. People don't play games to feel wonder anymore. They play games to complete achievements, and then move on to something else. The idea of creating variants of the 4 main classes with different primaries and variant specialty tools rubs many people the wrong way because they feel like such an addition, even with the ability to lockout subclasses, would introduce too much instability to the game. They don't want alternatives to Platform Guns, Ziplines, Drills, or Grappling Hooks. They don't want more Primary weapons to choose from. They don't want alternate Support tools.... because all of that would require more playtime in a game they believed they already mastered.

It is what it is. Time is merciless.

old man wonders why his grandkids don't visit any more
The game is 6 years old.
It's gotten content but the deal is that people don't often stick to a game for 5+ years.
This is very much true even for DRG and while people do come back after seasons and content updates but the game in general is just old.

I bet that once Core comes out that both games will get a BIG boost in popularity as you'll have people jumping on both and bouncing back and forth between the two.
DRG has entered that phase where you only ever mention it passingly to friends you used to play it with, who now more often share beers with you and stories of their youth, and you go, "Oh yeah, I remember that one! Y'know what, let's go play it again for old time's sake." Then you go play it for like 15 minutes, get bored, and the cycle repeats.
Some people get tired of playing the same thing over and over, especially if it turns stale from lack of new stuff. Some others get tired of games that pour endless updates into it, turning it into a schizophrenic cesspool that doesn't know what kind of game it wants to be anymore.

Pick your poison.

I'm somewhere in the middle. Doesn't matter if it gets updated or not (although bug fixes, if any, are most welcome). I like to play the same thing over and over, until I eventually get bored.
Concept Gamers + Content Gamers = Player Count

Guess which type of player bails first? :steamhappy:
Old game is old.
The urge to say "dead game" for no reason

Well IMO a lot of people got the game cause it's really affordable, runs on most computers, has a low learning curve and can be played offline / solo.

So you can expect a lot of them to not stick around for very long. The game can get really repetitive quickly also. If you don't like mining, digging... there is way better shooters out there.

I like a lot of elements in the game and that's what keeps me playing, but the level of coop is still very low in general IMO... it feels like team work at work... people just play together to finish their shift quicker and that's about it.
And one of the biggest feature in the game being the coop, classes, etc. It surely falls flat and just gets to a similar level as other coop games.

Edit: Also, there is a lot of other games that are made to be addictive or consume all your available playtime. So since DRG isn't really punishing peolple for not playing 8 hours a day every day... it's put aside for the benefit of another game that requires grind and plays with FOMO.

It surely does at time.

And that's a reaction thread to another recent thread btw... so it's not 'for no reason'.
