Tell us you don't understand economy of scale without telling us.
EDIT: In case you're talking about tea or coffee, it should still be cold enough to not be an issue.
I am talking about coffee and tea, yes.
it's like when everyone complained about that dreadful lion king remake but still saw it anyway, to the extent of making it one of the most profitable movies of all time
if you actually believe this is a bad deal, don't buy it. GSG is a company and is thus motivated by their bottom line - we saw as such when people thought the S3 DLC looked ugly
The plastic being used is also of extremely high quality, and thus expensive. The design is very complex, significantly more complex than your average plastic drinking vessel; involving multiple pieces.
I'm not saying buying expensive plastic mugs from a videogame is a smart choice in general, and I'm definitely not going to be spending my money on something so frivolous, but it's not a scam, you're getting charged relative to what it costs to produce the product; it just costs WAY more than you think due to economy of scale. Ie. They would be WAY cheaper if they made WAY more of them, but obviously no one is gonna buy all of those.
This is exactly what Kickstarter is for, small batches of niche product; that people are willing to pay more than average for.
