That said, yeah, you should atleast be firing from the doorway to cover other Dwarves; and to keep the area safe.
The exception is Point Extraction which can get rather hairy but the key there is while waiting for the drop pod to come in, everyone should head to, and defend the least accessible, and highest elevation room. This way if the pod comes down in another area it is going to be a more easily accessible than if everyone waits around the mine head and the pod comes down in that higher chamber. PE should ALWAYS have a Driller. If joining a PE mission missing a Driller, bring a Driller.
And the other general rule: Follow the (experienced) Driller. If you are Gunner or Engi, stick to the driller and cover the rear. Both have the firepower to hold anything coming up after you, and Engi can block off vertical passages. As a Driller consider using a vertical zig-zag route with steeper and shallower sections so an Engi can block off the route easily as you go.
i don't rly mind, if they want to win that bad i ain't gonna stop'em or get twisted cuz they ran to the pod first, it is what it is
For instance, I was doing an extraction, digging out a compressed gold right at the bottom of the cave, and someone pushed the button. Lo and behold, the pod lands down all the way up at the top of the cave, and the player that pushed the button sprinted for the drop pod, leaving me to fend off the overwhelming number of bugs coming at me from all directions.
Then, when I'm struggling to get to the pod - because I'm surrounded by multiplayer-scaled enemies, with the other 3 players all waiting at the drop pod - the guy texts me to hurry up, cussing at me and calling me insulting names the whole way, even throwing racial slurs to one of the other teammates, and accusing them of pushing the button, when that clearly was not the case. Shouldn't one expect having to wait at the the pod, if they're gonna push the launch button and run off, before everyone's ready??
But if I get to the pod first, and am sitting inside, I always make sure to duck back out and kill any bugs that appear, to make it as easy as possible for my teammates to enter safely. I always keep checking behind me, or on the map, to see where my teammates are at, though. If they're too far behind, I'll go back, and hold out my laser pointer, to show them which way to go.
Sure, as long as you're not the last Dwarf alive.
Securing the win for the whole team > Role-playing.
Role-playing is for Elves.
Yeah, sorry to anyone who gets left behind, but, y'know, it's just how my character is.
Even more advanced role-playing:
LARP as a Dwarf who secretly works for a rival company, with instructions to sabotage the team; prevent any other Dwarves from entering the Escape Pod by force.
And the only way to sabotage is to enter their consciousness during sleep to insert an idea that Droppod is fuelled by Leaf Lovers Special.
