Stone core event is way overtuned.
The crawlers are so fast, spawn in great numbers and do absurd amount of damage if they get close to you... seriously the event needs a look at.

We got the event in this weird circle like cave and it was an absolute nightmare.

It's not really that hard, just use slowing effects on them, but if you're having a skill issue; you can always just cheese it with zip lines.

All you need is a good driller and a zipline and you're golden ;)

Thanks for the tips, haven't played the game in 5 months and I had zero idea what's going on tbh.

using fears, slows, and stuns to delay corespawn from reaching/hitting you is generally more effective than trying to kill them unless your team is really good at doing that, killing a corespawn almost always leads to another one spawning in right after so keeping them back generally reduces the uptime crawlers have with being a threat more than killing them (plus it's way more ammo efficient to fear/stun than spend a ton of ammo killing 1-2 crawlers with how high the HP is)

either that or you can hop on a zipline and skip the crawlers all together for an easy win

if you don't have a gunner then the engineer can set up multiple platform bridges around the core stone, jumping between these plats constantly forces crawlers to chase after you a lot more reducing the threat, it's not as effective as just removing them via zipline but useful regardless, also LURE grenades or pheromones from scout can keep a lot of crawlers busy while you deal with the core stone

Zip line cheese shouldn't have to be a solution.

Freeze works best to keep them at bay

Any CC is good. Otherwise, just run around a lot. IMO the event is only hard if all the core spawns target a single player, if they split the agro evenly it's manageable.
Of course, you can't really control enemy agro, so use CC a lot, keep moving, and pay attention to your teammates to help them if they get overwhelmed.

Other solution would be to kill the enemies faster than they spawn, but it requires a lot more of coordination. The first couple of kills will most likely be instantly negated by enemy respawn, but if you're really fast at killing them, you'll have a decent amount of downtime and breathing room before the next group of corespawns spawn again.

Frost, Sticky Flames, Acid Sludge, periodically throwing a Voltaic Stun Sweeper, there are a lot of solutions to it. You can also just ignore it for a bit while the core stone's vulnerable if your Gunner has the 3 brain cells required to throw down a shield instead of sitting on his elderly mobility lift.

IDK man I just shoot at them and they die. Then mine the core. Feels under-tuned.

Haven't failed it yet on haz5+ maxed enemies. It's certainly hectic that's for sure, and sometimes teammates keep dying. But as a gunner main, the zipline and shield are the 2 most useful things in the game for this event so it's usually no problem.
Eh, I think the problem is the RNG nature of it not spawning on every map. If more than two people aren't equipped specifically to take the core monkeys, then Zipline cheese is necessary. Engineer with PGL specced soley for single target does some amazing damage, but no one runs it outside of eliminations, for example.

Literally use any gun with stun on it or just use gunners shield/zipline.
Dollop of Mayo Jul 8, 2024 @ 11:24pm
The biggest issue with the Core imo is that it's so insanely front-loaded. Like 10 crawlers spawn and swarm you but if you manage to kill them (just go ham with grenades and your biggest hitting guns) then the rest of the event is more or less on cruise control
Badger Jul 9, 2024 @ 1:03am
It seems that the zipline cheese makes the event a cakewalk which is an issue on it's own, needing a specific class to make the event easier, I still think they should fix the zipline cheese by making the crawlers have a ranged attack but also nerf their speed and health a bit to balance it out.

just another badly designed season event that is very obnoxious

i'd like to thank imbecile drillers for leaving a crate beneath the stone and then dying.
Excellent work.
