Host your own haz 5 and people will jump in.
On solo in particular, the ONE big thing that repeatedly gets me is going into a Mining Expedition and getting absolutely no Nitra spawns until the last couple rooms of the cave (happens every now and then). It's kind of infuriating when it happens, because I'm over here playing my ass off and it's just not mathematically enough to win lol.
Disclaimer: This advice only applies to "competent" team members.
The one that gets me is Slay the Spire, where there is a lot of skill involved in building a proper deck and playing it right. The problem is that you can be 20 minutes into a really good run, go against an enemy that does a ton of damage turn 1 and draw nothing but damage cards(some minibosses can do 60+ damage turn 1). DRG does have RNG but I am very thankful it very rarely has RNG like them, and not to their extent.
At least in FTL it kind of goes along with the space adventure aesthetic, where you can run into anything out there, and to succeed you have to think as far ahead as possible while remaining as flexible as you can.
Everyone keeps saying that, and I have to say, it's terrible advice. I tried for literally days to get the HAZ 5 no resupplies/no downs on either Egg Hunt or Point Extraction, with zero success. The swarms are simply too big.
I got it first try on a 1/1 Mining Mission. Way easier.
The 5 HAZ 5 in a row I actually got by accident by just playing assignments with random people.
The haz 3/4/5 no resup no downs } it was done also naturally. when a round progressed so quickly and smoothly, i just ask the team not to resup for this achievement. and unlocked them naturally.
yea just focus on assignments. some achievements unlock naturally.
Egg Hunt is by far the easiest? You can literally control when the swarm is going to happen and in a 4 egg mission you know there's only going to be one of them.
The unannounced swarms are constant in Egg Hunt though, and the initial landing room is almost always generated with a massive hole and filled with 2-3 swarms worth of bugs. They seem to have a much higher rate of breeders and spitballers than most missions too.
It's still the easiest. You'll find that a lot of mission types have a bunch of bugs generating right as you get out. The difference here is that a 4 egg hunt mission can be done VERY fast, the faster you can beat the mission, the less enemies you'll actually have to worry about.
The main issue about the "Karl Would Be Proud" achievement for example isn't the overall difficulty, it's that you will very quickly burn through all of your ammo. There's only really two viable mission types, those being egg hunt and Mining (ideally with Dark Morkite).
Egg Hunts can be beaten increadibly fast and Mining Missions are the only ones that dont have several waves of enemies spawning as part of the objective. You have the random swarms here and there, but that's it. Every other mission type has some sort of swarm happening as part of the objective, making it very hard to not run out of ammo completely without a supply drop.
I'm just saying from personal experience, I failed to achieve it roughly 20 times on 4 egg hunt, and got it first try on mining.
