I apologize for not immediately giving more details of what I mean by "worse", but I probably should give it some thought before further pissing off the NSA.
this.
If you're concerned with the glowies, just ditch windows all together as best you can if you hate 10 that much and join the penguin bros. They have versions (like mint) with similar UI to design windows so even a monkey brain can navigate it, run everything a bit smoother, and not a free backdoor in your OS to Mr Gates. Also running a dual OS/separate install on another drive is also an option if wanna keep windows for something
Seriously, if it's that big a deal run it on a dual boot or emulator or get a less then technically legal version of the game. If you put ur mind to it I'm sure you'll find an answer. For those who are nostalgic, the days of owning a cartride, 3.5" floppy or CD/DVD and owning the game forever is gone, we live in a world of live service, microtransactions "F2P aka P2W" games.
On a side note, Windows 7 is that much better then 10?! Dude, I remember when I was a kid and first got my hands on win 3.1 so I didn't have to remember much DOS anymore so I've been through it, all the way back to SODDERING RAM onto the motherboard of a rig I was building. Win 7 was NOT that much better then later versions. To me, 8 was the worst, followed by vista but 10 is way more stable,. I'm going to put off switching to 11 as long as I can even tho I have a machine that can way more then handle the specs. I've heard enough about gaming compatibility issues with win 11, more then any backwards compatibility problems (excluding linux lol) put together.
When steam started, the uproar against it (and DRM) was MASSIV probably the biggest I had ever seen (in terms of video games) and the warnings about obsolete tech and media rights was plain as day.
And literally NO ONE, let me repeat !!!!!NO!!!!!!!!!!! ONE!!!!!! stopped.
Some joined later sure, some started pirating sure but why do you all think it still came to this?
Our soceity choose to and its time to face consequences.
Sucks but thats the reality to live in an ever moving goo of flesh and thoughts.
But the best part of Windows 7 is that it is not being updated by Microsoft anymore!! That is make it much better than Windows 10, when Microsoft constantly invades your home and your PC and pushed their latest malware onto it. Sure Win-7 was malware, but without updates, 3rd parties are able to slowly plug some of the leaks.
But... [sorry, but I think it's appropriate to break this into responses here...]
It's not just about "Steam is going make it seem like you can't run any of your games on Windows 7 anymore", it's about "Steam takes your money and promises you nothing in return."
At this point, I think the most reasonable suggestion would be that they be required to put a big clear message explictly saying "Yes, I realize I'm giving my money to Steam and that they promise me nothing in return" when you sign up, and with a checkbox each and every time you make a purchase.
Yes, I think killing Win-7 really sux, and there are huge problems with it, but it only part of a much bigger problem.
My only excuse for otherwise "being a hypocrite" is that I really believe that Steam wouldn't do most of this garbage is the average user would complain 5% as loudly as I do.
BTW... some of my posts about DRG are silly, or "In Universe". But I'm 100% serious about this.
What I dislike most about saying "Windows 10 isn't that bad" in this context, is that helping to obfuscate (call attention away from) the bigger problem at hand.
BTW... if there one little sad misunderstood kid out there, who finds that playing DRG on their hand-me-down Windows 7 computer helps them deal, or perhaps avoid, life in general, and they're going to lose their gaming machine because their parents won't upgrade it (made the parent isn't a great parent and doesn't care, or maybe it's a matter of time and/or money) than that's clearly one kid too many. (But with perhaps hundreds of millions of Steam users, it's going to be a lot more than "one kid.")
On a slightly tongue-in-cheek followup, picture the horrors of those kids being forced to play horrible "Mobile games" instead. If you don't start complaining about Steam as well, you might as well have that on your conscience as well.
Someone in chat replied to me (paraphrasing) "You don't need to tell me companies are evil, that's not news." But you should remind yourself that:
What have you done to try to keep companies under control?
(So it doesn't matter if someone's 4K display running DRG on the latest M$-Windows isn't as cool as your sketchpad... that could go away for no reason whatsoever as well.)
