We are aware that some players have been experiencing a spike in connection issues with the introduction of season 02 . We are still investigating but haven't been able to find the source yet. Currently we are looking into whether the newer engine version or the newer steam api version (or both in combination) both introduced with season 02 could be the issue. But we need more info.

So if your connection went wonk after season 02 launched and you want to help us solve this, a reply or pm with the following info would be very appreciated:

1) I never host (I use VPN to get out of my region and bypass restrictions)
2) inconsistent. some times its really bad and I can't join any game after trying dozens of times (or frequently getting dropped). other times its not as bad.
Last couple of days, some lag spikes don't boot me out of game, so I remain in.

7) VPN generally yes (because of #3), but issue remains even when vpn is off, or various vpn settings changed. I've also been playing 1000h for over a year with same setup without this issue.
8) restart, reboot, change vpn settings, tried various network solutions (killing/monitoring everything using network)
9) maybe a bias, but it may be related to more popular rooms (mission/double xp) as I notice sometimes i can't get into any of a dozen xp missions, but first random mission room i pick works.
I track my network usage and when I drop out of a game I notice a massive spike in outbound data from FSD-Win64-Shipping.exe which I know is DRG.

So far, only as client, but I almost never host so can't provide feedback on that.

I don't get disconnected in EVERY game but I'd say 5/10 at random.

Nothing really, I can't find anything to actually do nor do I have a way to test it since the disconnects happen at random.

Not that I've noticed, again, it seems absolutely random. I can have a streak of 5 games where it works fine then get DCed in all the following ones. It does seem though, that I either disconnect on the first game I join with a random host, or I can play with them for any amount of missions without a problem.

Usually toward the end of missions, so after about 15 to 20 minutes. Lag hits at anytime, sometimes it lasts up to 10 seconds, sometimes none at all. Does not seem to matter which 'region' host game I have joined.

Verify Integrity of Files, Tried turning my FPS to 60 instead of 120. Turned graphics down. Seems like if graphics are high it happens more often I think but it doesn't make sense to me since I think it's connection issue.

My gut reaction to the weird 1100 ms ping spikes it typically its a packet/ injection through the connection system itself, this being the Shipping/ connection, first the computer crashed when playing and listed w.. blah blah shipping64... and somebody stated it was a problem with nvidia cards of that era, but this is 2022... that is when the lag spikes started... after the first crash.. then I had 3 subsequent crashes, my msedge started acting strange, sent diag to micro if that ever helps and the shipping program was directly using network data, since I was having connection problems. I was watching all the incoming and sent data, because 1100 ms spikes are super annoying, so shipping would be in interval pattern, but I couldn't rule out either, then msedge would sub navigate to a different page upon opening randomly. Keep in mind I haven't done anything with this comp then steam games.. so a bit weird..

I have no idea but it has stopped, but jsut loadedup on my new network and I can't connect to any games today on teh server but can connect to the system.

My thoughts is that someone/body has injected a virus via hte connection port that then decompiled into somethign else/ like malware and infected ocmputers, but you know maybe I am wrong.. I 've seen stranger things...

it was totally weird.. could watch network spikes with shipping and then msedge... bizarre...

yeah.. what is the possibility of injecting packets that decompile into malware or virus' hmm... THis isn't intended ot be fearmongering jsut htinking, but so far.. haven't had another lag spike since yesterday, but I can't connect to the server today.

Oh and it would be nice to have an in game chat... interface... so we can pick an option to always go back to ones own dwarf rig station, unless in a deep dive. Meh... it is easy enough to get games, but a chat system does help new players or other people with communcating and then the noise of poltics and whatever else, lmao.. but meh.. just ignore it...

It only happens once every 5-6 missions, 99% of the time the mission goes smoothly and there seems to be no connection issues, then suddenly everyone gets a huge lag spike and they start disconnecting almost immediately afterwards. Sometimes they all disconnect at once, other times it's one after the other. I've only ever had 1 other person experience it and not disconnect before the mission was over. The length of the mission never seems to be a contributing factor, I've seen it happen shortly after a mission begins and just before escaping, sometimes even during the escape sequence. It also seems to prevent others from joining the game after it happens, or at least I've never seen anyone attempt to join the mission once it's happened, it strikes me as odd seeing as I usually get people cycling in and out of my lobby like clockwork.

The weird part is; after the lag spike everyone's connection seems to be fine, they can still freely move, aim, shoot, and type in chat as if nothing happened, but then their connection gets axed out of the blue. The last time this happened there was even a long enough period of time before the disconnects rolled in for everyone to discuss how they were going to get disconnected. Sure enough, they did.

EDIT: I can now confirm that other people can still join after the disconnect happens, its just very rare.

*The only thing I have done to try and combat it is to only join other people as sometimes my crashes too and when I disconnect I rejoin using steam friends.
*It usually starts with everything running in place, not being able to break terrain, and things just not responding. After a few seconds I disconnect, but recently I have been quitting as soon as I see the signs of a disconnect and click abort mission then reconnect as quickly as I can. Last thing of note is that I'm on Linux, for the longest time I thought it was a Linux issue, and it took me forever until I found this community post. I tried making a report on GitHub, but it was too complicated for me. I hope you can fix it soon.

While this thread is about connection issues, I hope the dev team is aware of the current problem with crashes. Besides crashing being a lot more frequent now, they seem worse, before season 2 there was basically the “classic” crash, where your game suddenly closed and you had a crash report window, but now there’s a frozen screen crash that makes you usually have to restart your computer.

Crashing it’s totally tied with connection lost problem, because when the host crashes the rest of the team gets the “lost connection with server” message, I’m pretty sure most of the people reporting connection lost it’s because the host crashed, so crashing is the base problem.

It is great to see a dev telling us that they are aware of the problem and they are trying to fix it, especially after reading here for months the same group of people telling everyone that reported those problems that the game is totally fine, there’s no problems at all and all the crashes/connection issues are player’s fault. Bios updates, network driver updates and rollbacks, malware scans, router resets, checking DNS is correct, now using vpn

Only started a couple of weeks ago so dont think the actual cause is DRG but something that triggers it like windows update KB5016616 Win10 21H2 ♥♥♥ update (13/08/2022) or KB5012170 Win10 21H2 ♥♥♥ update (10/08/2022(DD/MM/YYYY)) or KB5015730 .net3.5/4.8 update (11/08/2022).
ALso add when it happened midgame on 21/08/2022 It would not let me rejoin my host no matter what I did which was different from before, I tried swapping steam source, cleared download cache, validated files, started vpn never succeeded till he finished the match. Missed out on lots of XP...cue sad Dwarf noises.

One thing I would like to add after my original post is that the disconnect issue was made worse by the fact that if the host gets downed, and everyone that was playing disconnects before they are revived, then the mission fails, even if there are still bosco revives. Unless the player is alive, bosco just doesn't show up, which he should do.
