magic bullets - works with pierce?
gunner revolver, pierce skill, magic bullets OC.

if you shoot a target, bullet pierces, hits terrain, is it then eligible to ricochet? the wiki says its not eligible to ricochet *back to the same target that was pierced*, but it doesnt say that it cant ricochet to a different target.

yes it does work, no you can't hit the same target more than once. the way piercing works is that the hitscan trace doesn't stop when intersecting with an enemy, only when intersecting with terrain. with magic bullets this means that you can hit an enemy direct and also bounce to hit a second enemy, but that second target can't be one that was damaged by the initial bullet. with bullet hell on the minigun this gets really fun, since that bounces on hit, it allows you to hit an enemy, pierce through, and create a new bullet that bounces from the initial hit on your first target. you can't get multiple ricochets off of one shot and can't hit the same target more than once though, as technically the shot that bounces is a seperate shot as far as the game is concerned. these new shots will overpen, but they won't bounce.

EDIT: "but that second target can't be one that was damaged by the initial bullet" to clarify, i am referring to direct damage here. if you have explosive rounds you can absolutely splash damage a bug and bounce to hit that same bug, you just can't "double tap" them if they were hit directly.

Test it and report back.
I think explosive rounds is better though even if it works. It's like having the mingun and auto cannon equipped at the same time.

right, if enemies are close enough together, then why not use explosive with neurotoxin. basically i am asking what is the point of this overclock. do people really miss with the revolver? its mainly used up close.

per the wiki, yes. magic bullet spawns a new shot the first time it contacts an enemy or terrain, so pierce it will hit the target, spawn a new shot targeting something within x meters and the original shot will continue to possibly hit something behind the target.

Because the explosive damage can't benefit from weakpoints.
Furthermore the explosive rounds cuts your damage in half and adds flat +30 explosive damage. Making any damage boost have diminishing return. While Magic Bullets only have -20 damage.

I just use this to deal with spitters. Being able to just quickly fire in the general direction for one sec to deal with them is great.

I've been looking for some new builds to test out myself. They changed so much since launch and it's a lot different than when I was a regular back then. I keep lead storm OC on my minigun and just set up my bulldog with magic bullets OC, explosive rounds and neurotoxin and that makes an amazing crowd wiper companion. With thunderhead I had carpet bomber on it and it was set for max AoE effect and I have my bulldog set up with elephant rounds to basically turn it into a sniper rifle for single target damage but the carpet bomber OC seems to be pretty weak nowadays. I switched that out with big bertha. I haven't even tried the hurricane yet. Just collecting cores and OCs for it as I go. I'd love to hear some builds for that to try out.

Let me go into detail. Magic bullets down side is a flat -20 damage. This downside doesn't affect the +30 aoe from explosive bullets. Since I am mainly using the revolver for the aoe, this makes the oc basically a clean OC for me, +8 ammo and ricochet for no (effective) downside. All the other OCs can't compare.
With both ammo mods, you have 62 total bullets. Tons of ammo for spam at swarmers, groups of grunts, tag big stuff with neurotoxin (wonderful in elimination). The ricochet is great for killing small flying enemies like jellies or shredders. Point down and shoot and the ricochet will hit them and then the explosion will kill off adjacent ones. As a lead storm minigun user, it covers all the weaknesses of that gun.

Check the wiki, it has all the answers to your questions.

For me I like the bouncing explosive toxic bullets to put the poison dot on a whole bunch of enemies
just make sure your primary is decent at dealing with praetoreans
