What is the point of the BRT burst fire gun for Gunner ?
The Bulldog with the Elephant rounds OC does 130 damage and can take down a pretorian at HZ 4 with 2-3 weakpoint hits whereas the Minigun and the Lead Cannon have high fire rates and can be used to mow down grunts and the like. So what is the use of the BRT ?

Is there any OC that makes it significantly better ?

The only use I ever see out of the BRT is when I'm running Big Bertha for Autocannon, honestly I would use it more if Elephant rounds weren't dummy broken.

For BRT's overclocks I can find most use out of Experimental rounds to make it closer to an overclock free burst bulldog and Compact mags for ammo and accuracy since the longer break between bursts helps you not go haywire.

The BRT is a pretty good utility for stunning enemies, including Praetorians, consistently 100% of the time for a low ammo cost while having several seconds' worth of it.
All of its overclocks are also very straightforwards and are overall pretty much just positives excepting the Electro Minelets, so you can toss them onto almost any build you go for with it and have it work out to a net positive.

It's deceptively capable of dealing with enemies post-buff, it has a very high reserve ammo pool compared to the Bulldog so you don't need to go for ammo as consistently, and it's fun to use.

Something to consider is that pure damage isn't necessarily everything, utility can be far more worthwhile potentially.
Sure you can kill 5 praetorians in about 3 shots each on Haz 4 solo, but you need about 4 with a full team.
You have about 16 shots if you mod for pure damage which is required for being able to 3 to 4 shot a Praetorian, as a result you knock your total number of Praetorians you can kill down to 4 when in a full squad.

From there, we also have to consider that Elephant Rounds increases recoil by 2.5x and spread per shot by 2x which means the potential for you missing follow-up shots not because you suck but because of the sometimes erratic ways that Praetorians and other creatures move.
If you DO miss even once then you just knocked an entire Praetorian kill out of your ammo pool's potential, though that's for killing it outright and not weakening it heavily to your allies' fire, but you were looking at it from a pure 1 on 1 perspective in your post so I am as well.

As well, due to your extremely limited ammo pool, you have to reserve it SPECIFICALLY for killing heftier foes as opposed to being able to use it as a backup weapon in case you get swarmed and need to be able to shoot and move at the same time, which is not only possible but entirely likely especially on Haz 4 and up. Other bulldog overclocks allow for this as well, but the BRT has even more ammo allowing you to more effectively use it for this purpose.

All that said, Elephant Rounds is objectively a great overclock for what its intended use is, which is killing heavy single targets or weakening them up for your allies or those moments when there's one chunk more of health on an enemy like a Dreadnought or Bulk Detonator and you can use it to save tons of ammo.
I think that you're just overvaluing it and undervaluing the BRT and even other overclocks for the Bulldog as a result.
It's not that the BRT is bad or useless or what have you, you just prefer being able to outright kill single targets with your secondary given that your primary is generally capable of dealing with swaths of enemies, and if you're playing with others you do tend to have people watching your back. It's not impossible or even that much harder to succeed with a now more powerful BRT though.

Seems to me like it's just a case where it doesn't fit your playstyle, which is fine, that's why you can build weapons to your liking.

ahh thanks for the informative reply. I might give it another try soon. It's just that I felt that the Bulldog is for max damage and Leadstorm is for max trash killing, which is all I'd need, and the BRT is stuck in the trance between being a trash killing weapon and a powerful secondary. I'll try it with the experimental rounds if I can find it.

Upcoming changes will....change this

Burst pistol is meant to be better for spike damage up close, and it is if you don't have elephant rounds. It's just that elephant rounds is way too good.
Maybe they'll nerf it someday and burst pistol will be useful again.

There is no point even after the update honestly. If you want a good grunt/trash killer for the Mini take the magic bullet OC with Neuro and Explosive shots on Bulldog(shoot next to the enemy not at them and they get hit 2 times) and its miles better than the BRT.

Just saw the list of potential changes... my oh my. This looks fun. Can be big change for Brt and the new oc changes for bulldog look great too.

The BRT fills no role for the gunner. It's the least well-thought-out weapon in the entire game.

Excuse me, where exactly can I find this list?

Also, why all the BRT hate? It's at the very least serviceable now.
The point of the gun? It shoots bullets that kill bugs while CC'ing them forever.

As long as Elephant Rounds remain unchanged, it's basicly there to steal your matrix cores :'D
WiseDuck Apr 7, 2020 @ 1:39pm
Elephant Rounds has already been nerfed in the latest experimental patch. BRT honestly seems fine, used it today and even with micro fletchettes on Haz5 it worked very well. So nice to have something that doesn't run out of ammo fast like the Bulldog.

I'd like to see this changelist as well. I know the Experimental Branch has its own sets of changlogs but I can't seem to find references to the Bulldog and BRT in the latest few changelogs for U29's Experimental Branch.
