How do I upgrade my beer license?
I've been googling and can't find an answer. It must be really obvious, but I can't find it in the interface anywhere.

You also need to have certain ingredients to upgrade the license.

When you put the cursor on a beer in the list and it says that you need to upgrade your license, you just click on that, and, if you have the required ingredients, that beer will be unlocked. I was confused about that too at first, thinking that I had to go somewhere else to upgrade the license, and then that beer would be available.

unlocking a beer with the materials listed on it is actually what upgrades your beer license it.

When it says "Upgrade your beer license" it doesn't mean that's a prerequisite to unlocking that beer, it means that unlocking the beer -will- upgrade your beer license.

Ahhhhhh. Ok, thank you - that makes sense now.

Lmao 2 years ago I searched for this exact thing and posted about it but forgot. Still haven't fixed it in their UI 😂 Needs some work lmao

How much clearer can it get? The cost is right there, it's clickable. It's reasonable to assume that it's the buy button. It's also distinct from the things that require separate upgrades; it says "upgrade license" not "requires upgraded license".

One note that I hadn't seen anyone else mention is that it also requires a certain Rank (the blue level thing). First beer unlock is at Rank 5 (Arkenstout), and final one is at Rank 17 (Wormhole Special).

When you go to buy beer there's this whole 'buy upgrade license' button right there with the exact cost.

It was really unnecessary to necro this.

Maybe OP just feels like he missed a clown reward, and then necro the thread?

To be fair, from the OP's point of view it was better to necro this since they still feel like they're having the problem. It's just not a common problem.

To answer some questions:

No I was not trying to get an "award".

I was not trying to be disruptive and "necro" a thread, either. I was genuinely surprised and a little amused that it hadn't been fixed yet, but I see now why people think this is a dumb question, so let me explain.

What's unclear is this:

Hovering over any of the beers just says "UPGRADE LICENSE". It doesn't say "BUY WORMHOLE SPECIAL" or "BREW WORMHOLE SPECIAL" or "BUY ACCESS TO THE SPECIAL", it just says "UPGRADE LICENSE".

It seemed like, because of the generic message on all of them, I needed to buy a one-time upgrade to my bar to have the license to be able to brew any of the special beers, and the icons and numbers (I assumed costs?) being shown to me were the cost to brew / order an individual round of that kind of beer.

Because the icons are never explained, a player is never really told how to get a specific one (Barely Bulbs spawn in the Salt Pits! Or whatever), and because the costs seemed so high and unattainable as a player of 50+ hours, I posted on the forums, here.

DRG is a great game, and it has a LOT of currencies and treadmills to run on, but it's not always clear how to get to a chosen goal once you've picked one.

It also displays the cost right there. It shows you your available resources right in the same window. Apart from the fairly ambiguous wording there's nothing else they can change to make it more clear.

there's not really much to say about beer ingredients, they have the same spawn rate in every mission type. it takes maybe 100 missions to 100% the beer list
