How to Quickaxe (pickaxe faster)
As soon as your pickaxe fully extends, let go and immediately repress the mouse button to restart your pickaxe animation. Doing this repeatedly and perfectly cancels the pullback animation of pickaxing and is significantly faster than just holding down the mouse button and lets you more quickly mine and melee attack.

You can even solo hordes of grunts in haz 4 and 5 with just melee + berserk and vampire if you quickaxe.

Its a little difficult not repressing the mouse too early and not landing that frame where your pickaxe connects with whatever you're hitting and missing a swing, but with some practice it really makes a huge difference.

This info is as much meta and useful:cleanfloppy:, as to know that throwing axes can be used to destroy yellow poisonous fungi in fungus bogs biotop and still picked up as "unused". :summer2019mushroom: Just fear, that they will "repair" it.

Aaand let this be a lesson to devs; 'fixing' something that works fine already tends to lead to their own issues that you gotta 'fix'. Sometimes, just leave well enough alone.

It was 'fixed' because people were abusing that old animation to mine way faster than they should be able to. To the point were some people were setting up macros for that to do it even faster. Basically exploiting an overlooked interaction between quick swap (If I remember correctly) and mining.

I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing and enjoy the game as it was meant to be played. Us greybeards pickaxe at our own pace.

It used to be even more broken, like literally twice as fast, now it's only slightly faster.
It's more useful on hitting enemies than it is for mining.

exploiting the old pickaxe animation is not the way the developers intended the game to be played, the same goes for the new animation.

ask yourself this: if the developers (the ones who code the game) think something is a bug... what right do any of us as players have to say otherwise? remember, there is a difference between making suggestions to developers, and suggesting that an exploit should be left in the game. it ultimately comes down to the developers intentions. they removed q-mining for a reason, they didn't just do it to spite people. obviously they don't want people to be able to mine faster than they already can, except through the usage of the beer buff.

Yep. They'll probably end up fixing it by making the animation after a hit play regardless. No use getting in the habbit of abusing something that'll likely get fixed.

I don't know why they don't just make people commit to pickaxe swings.

Click once, no hold, it goes through the entire animation before firing again.

Also, it is not significantly faster and this method has been around for a while under the radar (literally since the day they patched Q mining, fairly sure there is a thread on it from that day), it's too much work for roughly 20-30% faster swing speed when timing errors and lag are taken into account.

Old Q mining could *almost* double your mining rate on a regular basis by comparison.

Someone compared normal mining vs qmining on YT(can't find the video anymore, think it got deleted right after the patch). It was shockingly ineffective for the amount of complaints it produced!

Q-mining would produce results such as "whoa how are you mining so fast"
that isn't the case today since it's so minimal, and the chance to miss it makes it not worth it

nearly all your reasoning is based off anecdotal data. you can't know for sure if the new animation affects ALL players in a bad way. just the same way you can't know for sure how many users were using the q-mining trick.

you can have your opinion on how mining should be implemented, but don't start making things up to justify your opinion. i personally don't see the issue with the way mining works right now, you hold right click, the pickaxe swings and hits, and you continue holding right click. literally what is the different from before? unless you're the type of player who wants to right click a single time for every swing, then by all means, you do you. but i highly doubt that a majority of players are pressing right click once for every pickaxe swing.

and yes, if the developers see an exploit that very obviously shouldn't be in the game, we really don't have rights as a player to go against that. like come on... you REALLY think that cancelling a pickaxe swing as soon as it hits to have your player's arm teleport back into position for another swing is even justifiable? mining is pretty much half of the game itself. if people think it's too slow, they can tell that to the developers. but keeping an exploit on the down low so that only a few players can gain an advantage from it in a game where, once again, mining is half of the gameplay... yeah no. that doesn't really make sense, now does it?
