They already made money from it, with the added bonus of all the sales as a result of the non-VR mod, pretty sure they have moved on to other things. They stated originally that they did not think the game would translate well to flat screen, having been built specifically for VR, but that they would leave it to modders if there was a demand for a non-VR version.
No harm in asking I guess but I don't see it happening myself.
a. VR is not "going away" (it is also nothing like 3D TV, so that's not a good start) so no idea where you got that from.
b. Valve is making money hand-over-fist with Steam, they don't need extra money so the "more sales" argument is moot.
c. Quote: "...is more about constantly picking up stuff over and over and over and hide/jump around." Yes, like you would do in real life - that's the R(eality) part of VR you appear to be missing.
d*. There's already a great community mod for those wanting to play the game without VR. Why would Valve want to spend a lot of time and money developing what already exists? Better to use that effort one creating new things, rather than rehashing old ones.
e. "Death in sales"? The game sells fine as far as we can tell, and it achieved its likely reason-to-be, which was to shift a lot of Index Headsets. Also the mod exists, so more people will but anyhow, and at zero extra cost to Valve.
*Of course that's not to say they never would. But only if they genuinely thought it would be fun to do, or add something unique to the experience for players.
Stop waiting for Valve to come to their senses and just download the fully functional NOVR mod -

Then wait for the next time Alyx goes on sale to buy it. No one should pay full price for a game they have to mod themselves.
The VR market is STAGNANT! It's a niche within a niche that's not getting any more popular than it is.
That's what they said during the 1st generation of VR yet here we are.
By your own metric, 1 out of every 10 VR games released is worthwhile which is a fantastic ratio. (Although I'm pretty sure that was an accidentally optimistic figure.)
