In my opinion teleportation is terrible why they even include it at all, you stand like a stump cemented to the ground and shoot. You have to turn around and point to move, what if people want to move backwards while shooting?
I'll use smooth loco, but given how much effort valve spent on shift and teleport, I'll def give them a whirl. Shift is quite interesting to me, but probably I'll still stick to smooth loco head.
It is also the hardest to implement into world design properly. Had they started with smooth it would have been likely the design would have to be constantly tweaked to account for space/areas, heights/verticality and interruptions when teleporting or dashing.
They stated that they had to do a lot of interesting things to get teleport and dash to work to make it seem like Alyx is actually travelling, from speed and timing, down to the noise her gear makes from the movement. They didn't want it to feel like she had superpowers I guess or to ruin game balance just from choice of movement.
Once they had a realistic traversal area, they then added and tested smooth, which fit like a glove since they did the work to make realistic traversal for the other movement methods anyway.
Certainly is an easier thing to mess with and design from teleport to smooth, than from smooth to teleport if you ask me.
Oh and I will probably test them all as they put the work in, but I prefer smooth and likely will stick with that in the end.
And I prefer 45 degree instant snapping. I'll have to see exactly what the game offers.
And head is based on head position.
Thats how it should be at least.
I don't want my head or hand's position have in influence on my direction. That seems horrible to me. I know I can't stand head based directional input, and hand based sounds even worse.
