And when stuff like this happens it could be connection issues where it seems like you are conected but there is lapse. It's also hard to say anything without knowing what the opponent had, what kinds of buff he played etc. 16 damage on turn 3 sounds too much granted, but maybe it was turn 4 for him and maybe you forgot something, who knows.
Yes, maybe I forgot something, and maybe he cheated. Why are people so afraid to admit there may be cheaters in this game?
Also, I am approaching 2000 hours played and never faced any cheating. On the other hand I have replied to dozens of threads here in the forum where players were accused of cheating where it turned out something was missing or card in play explain what happens. That helps alot with the perspective of actual cheating :)
IF everything was exactly as you said then something fishy is going on, yes. But you already corrected yourself from turn 3 to turn 4. Who knows what else you missed. And the most obvious explanation is a temporal disconnect. Game tries to catch up and sync games again and one of you might have missed an entire turn. This can happen without you noticing other than something happening too fast or in your case ending up dead. THIS is something I experienced a couple of times, but it's not cheating. It certainly does look like it of course.

Long story short : yes, there are exploits. Since we have each and every match log in our database, they are relatively easy to verify, when we are given the details as stated above. As tournaments have more interesting rewards, so has interest in using exploits risen, sadly. Yes, we perma-ban them as we find them, and work on improving our systems in this area is ongoing.
