KARDS - The WWII Card Game

KARDS - The WWII Card Game

Noob needs help
What packs would you recommend that I buy to put together a reasonably good German deck? There are so many things in the shop that it's a bit confusing. Is there anything that is a must have for a German deck?

There are actually only two things to consider: A) Get packs of the base set or the newest expansion and B) when you do to buy regular packs or officer packs.
As long as you are new, there is no reason to buy officer packs (look it up in other threads, I won't explain that yet again). So it's down to base or new set and I honestly think it doesn't matter. Just do your daily quests and play alot, you will get lots of stuff via national progression.
Of course you could consider to buy a german premade deck if that's how you roll. Personally I don't think it's necessary and I'd rather learn a game from scratch, build your my deck and enjoy the steady progression with each card I earn. But I am a dying species and the new crop is all about instant gratification, so what do I know :)

+1 to Puschit's advice.

Start with the base cards and learn from those. Far better to get demoralized for free than paying for the privilege :) Even for a veteran player like myself the advent of new cards and dynamics is a challenge to keep track of. There's little time to learn many of the cards before they rotate out.

I recently went through a personal quest of sticking to the basic cards and playing against more modern decks. It was pleasantly surprising how well they can do when played thoughtfully. In some ways the older cards have advantages because newer more "powerful" were introduced to combat other newer and more "powerful" cards. In many instances there's little to counter the basic cards because they have no frills.

For me, I only bought officer packs and built my decks with the cards I've had unlocked.

I did a little bit of everything and it worked out great. having some experience with the new cards combined with the older ones could prove useful in creating your own deck and play style. get as many free as possible of course and build around that.

In addition to all that has been written above:
I assume you have the Level 12 german national pack. If not, get it. :)
There are different types of german decks that fare well. Those can often be seen used with success on ladder but also on casual mode and in tournament videos on YouTube. Germany players often use aggressive decks, countermeasure decks and control decks. The control decks often rely on a number of strong elite units, so those will be hard for a new player to obtain. Countermeasure decks are good sometimes but bad in other situations and I don't know whether I would bet my money on them. Finally, aggressive decks are normally pretty reliable, especially since you can combine the cards you have in them with other nations' aggressive cards. German has good Blitz units with decent strength, has good suuppporting orders and many of those are regular and limited cards. That means they can be crafted with the wildcards you get as a beginner. There are also a few Specials that you find in every proactive german deck. Blitz Doctrine and 20. Panzergrenadier for example, are cards that give you good value in every german deck. Those are, in my opinion, a good choice for crafting if you have Special wildcards.

Regarding shop items: I'm with the others. You cannot really buy specific stuff for a good german deck unless you invest in battle-ready decks and shop cards. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would buy normal packs, probably from Blood and Iron as there seem to be some good cards in it. Next, focus on national progression, gaining wildcards and invest those into the good german cards that everybody uses. From what I see, the battle ready Starter deck and the Grind Fest national deck do contain some solid regular and other cards to form the basis of your deck.

That got a little lengthy. If you read it all, thanks and have fun. :)

I'm fairly new myself, but for each nation, get the pre-made deck all of them get at (I think) level 14. Learn how those work and *why* they work. You can really only learn with experience, and those decks are competitive for me up to Rank 15 at least.

Germany can be OP but they’re also a little hard to play with, until you figure out the right formula. It’s hard for me to give advice, mainly because I have a lot of wildcards sunk into my deck to get a lot of Polish cards that aren’t just “given” out often. Germany doesn’t hold your hand like other nations, like Japan. I’ve seen very, very few impressive “creative” decks by Japan. One Japan deck I played with was interesting because it made me literally draw and draw and draw until I ran out of cards, then health. But the majority of Japan decks you’ll see are brain dead play-n-forget cards that do all the work for you. That’s why once you hit the single digit levels, you almost never see those awful decks again.

German decks have good counter measures, but there’s for sure a formula to it for cards that attack. Big ones are always expensive and it’s a bit of a turtle, so you have to find a way to hold out and push hard enough with the smaller stuff to last until you’re higher in Kredits to dish out the big guns and deal a lot of damage in just a few turns. At least in my experience.

I’d have to agree with puschit for a starter German deck.
