They really only removed it because its illegal in Germany.
You are not allowed to show it in public or write positvie stuff about Nazi related context, no glorification. (Which I approve of.)
It was allways allowed in movies. Hence the old Indiana Jones movies were never censored. But it is also forbidden to glorify it in movies (as it should be).
Video games where long not seen as Art, but in the same caterogory as toys and games. Since these were most often for children nazi symbols weren't allowed. But since 2019 it is allowed to show Swastikas in video games and no censoring is considered. But still you are not allowed to glorify it.
Before 2019 the censoring was done bye the publisher, not a german court or the USK. The publishers were afraid of giving a demo version for testing with Nazi symbols, so they censored themself. Which in case was a problem because the USK never had the chance to rule if this should be censored or not. (I paraphrase here, this are not all the details as it is nuanced, but the important ponts I remeber). Ths USK can only test and give a rating for the version the are given bye the publishers. And no publisher had the guts to try it in fear of not being allowed to sell it openly with advertisment. (Valve gave a censored version of L4D1 if you can believe it.)
The standing of the USK changed with the years regarding violence in games and nazi symbols.
So we in Germany know our past and have a different approach to it.
I don't see why this should be a problem for Kards.
We acknowledge that the use of the Rising Sun flag is an issue still highly debated especially in Korea. The reasons for this are manifold, and part of it is the lack of an official apology from Japan till today about all the heartbreaking and terrible war crimes conducted by Japan in Korea. This is a highly political matter.
We, at 1939 Games, simply want to just create an interesting card game that uses the historical background of WW2 (instead of, like other CCGs do, using fantasy settings). We have no intention of glorifying any war crimes past or present. In fact, we strongly condemn any form fascism, nationalism or ideologies that result in violation of human rights and peaceful relationships between the people of the world.
We will continue to carefully select our artwork, adjust where necessary and improve whenever possible.
I have deleted most of the comments here as they were not contribution to the original topic.
