Intentional Glitching
Just had a player glitch out, maybe intentionally, maybe not. He ran down his timer, then got basically an extra turn. Lost me the game. Is there any way to stop that from happening? Should I disconnect MY internet to counter the glitch? Pulling at straws here, but it's an annoying way to lose and makes me want to put this down until the next season/rebalance.

So if it was not an intentional glitch, it's just some busted spaghetti code...so much better haha.

I’m going to go COMPLETELY out on a limb and take a wild guess: was the intentionally glitching player by any chance from a certain region of East Asia? As we all know, poor dears from that part of the world often have some serious connection issues that accidentally only ever affect their opponents.

'Roping' down the timer is bannable and is enforced; further information here:
https://support.kards.com/hc/en-us/articles/900001884983-Policy-on-timer-use-roping-

Otherwise everything else I've seen is due to desynchronisation issues; particularly with the Chinese player base having poorer internet connectivity in their geographical region - The 1939 Devs are very aware of this issue and will be trying to focus, prioritising that to be fixed/improved now that the major roadmap deliverables (NewUI, shop update, mobile release, BIA expansion, etc.) have been achieved.

I didn't want to bias the initial post, but yes, or at least, his name was in Chinese characters. Good to hear that it's a priority for the devs though.

Yeah well, bias or not, there is a lot of that going on and like I said, the “glitching” overwhelmingly benefits the Chinese players. I have yet to have a game in which they went AFK and LOST. It’s always “ropes out, goes offline, blocks my turn, comes back with a killer combo” or “keeps glitching so eventually I AM forced to surrender”.

I encourage raising support tickets (via https://support.kards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) in these instances as it will help the dev/support team in better identifying and understanding the issues when they occur - Be sure to include your PlayerName#1234 and the opponent's PlayerName#1234 too if you can (screenshot might be better for non-English names) and time of the match (Steam screenshots also include this automatically in the filename) as support can review the match history.

No surprise, Chinese cheaters are destroying this game and the devs and their shills flat out deny anything is wrong. Just had one Chinese cheater plop 2 artillery pieces DURING MY TURN. Unbelievable.
I'm genuinely interested, have either of you two actually raised a support ticket about these cheating instances you've encountered?

EDIT: Just for reference, I've only had one really dodgy game that submitted a support match-review ticket for and it was confirmed as being caused by a desynchronisation issue.

Yes. Twice in the last month. With zero effect and no response to the tickets either. I reckon I’ve been blacklisted, haha.

Also, I’m genuinely interested: how were you compensated for the “really dodgy game” and how was the cheater exploiting the desync punished?
Turkus Jul 15, 2023 @ 6:41am
I used to have quite a few "desync" issues, and it was always when I had someone on the ropes and then they'd reappear with hidden units or crazy plays or combos so I just stopped playing for awhile after putting in a few support tickets where it was blamed on desynch.
I've honestly not seen it happen as much after playing again and when it does, either the timer will run out on them or the game finishes normally so I though maybe something had been done behind the scene.
I have to wonder just how often this "desynch' issue happens in tournament play.

Just a little data:

There are 130 open posts as of June 27, 2021 (just do a search with the word "disconnect" in the search box) on this topic. And as "someone" says, the issue of disconnection always benefits the same side...

The log files have been submitted and have not yet been resolved. Surely it's very difficult to test or verify, but it's still annoying...

Note: I had these problems frequently a long time ago (I even uninstalled the game a while ago for some time because of it), but I have to admit that in the last few games it only happened once to me and it really seemed like a real disconnect, because there were no significant changes to the board.

I just played a match against a western player. He disconnects. I don't.

I wonder why the "Asian" players with that "connection issues" make us get disconnected from the server instead of them (Who has the "low connectivity" problems?) And always when they get connection again they have played their turn without we being able to see it, when the problem is really there (they say they "lose" the connection) but it seems that it affects to our connection... (and the connectivity problem -it seems- it is something we have) At least strange...

If you play against Asian, maybe it is Asian server?

Do you mean that when I play against a German player I am playing on a European server, when I play against a Canadian player it is an American server and when I play against an Australian player it is an Oceanian server? So I never play "at home", LOL.

Dunno. Ask the the devs if they have servers in "Asian" territory ;)

Maybe that is causing disconnect issues between USA/ Asia / Europe de-sync issues?

Really? LOL

Okay well that sucks. When you both raised a support ticket did you get the "1939 Games Support Ticket received" automated email-reply with the ticket number?

Otherwise my support tickets were always responded to within a few days by Shane who I've found to be very helpful, polite, communicative, understanding and apologetic.

It wasn't cheating/exploiting though - As explained to me:
Was cased by a bad desynchronisation issue between the server and client for both players and resulted with somewhat unpredictable client-side effects.

karmington is very aware of how badly desynchronisation issues are affecting some players and if not already, will be pushing really hard with the rest of the developer team in trying to fix/improve it - How do I know this?: I follow them in the KARDS discord server.
