I really like the gameplay here. The survival mechanics we haven't seen since mgs3. The way you have to navigate in the dust by using landmarks and a compass. I like even the stamps on the map you can use to mark important locations. The story - even if not canon - still made me wonder what the hell is going on and where it all is going.
But this Metal gear survive has one serious issue - it's a "games as service" game with all the consequences of it like microtransactions, lootboxes (which are not that annoying here, but you still question whether the game was balanced with these things in mind or not), always online requirement even for the single player mode (which is terrible - I've been send back to the last save a few times just because of a small connection issue), being unable to start completely from scratch (some progression just linked to your account), not being able to create a new character without deleting the old one (I'm sure there were multiple character slots available on start, but either konami changes something, or I just misremember things). And most importantly, konami can just shutdown the servers anytime they like and that's it, you won't be able to play it at all single-player or not. And I'm not encouraging you to play it while you can, on the contrary, it's a bad move from konami and you, probably, shouldn't support it with your money.

TLDR; Decent survival craft game, but definitively not worth 40$ (at the time of writing).

Always online nonsense in a essentially single player game and MGS fans calling it a cash-grab aside;
It has a decent story, mechanics, etc. for a survival/craft/base-builder game. decent combat, some interesting plot twists and some frustrating yet fun game mechanics.

But once you're done with the story it's 24h timers to progress and micro transactions to skip said timers. Previously fun mechanics become extremely repetitive and boring. Same with the tower-defense "side" content, which seems to be the main way to improve your gear (both during and after story), becomes (imo) at times tedious and frustrating as you try to solo content that was seemingly meant for a 4-player team.

I have a love + hate relationship with this game, I like it because it's Metal Gear and I have an obsession with the franchise. The problems arise from the repetitive gameplay almost like it's a mobile game. (Constantly unlocking teleporters isn't exactly fun gameplay) also the goofy elements from the Metal Gear franchise have seemed to be completely stripped from this game except from a few very rare elements.

I hate how diving doesn't keep you laying downwards like in MGSV, I also hate how the controls were changed from the previous game for no good reason.

The story is mainly just text and it's boring to watch

TLDR: I play it because it's Metal Gear, but I dislike it because it's not Metal Gear.
