Cold Waters

Cold Waters

A very quiet hiding spot.
Have any of you guys noticed a sunk ship on the bottom gives off a lot of air bubbles.
But have you ever tried to sit above it in the air bubbles? Then look at your noise level in dB.
It drops about 15 dB's. I even was 10 db below ambient db. Ambient is 102 db and my db is 92. My normal db is 115 when not in the bubbles. I messed around some more with positioning, the lowest I could get was 82 db. 20 db below ambient. cool.

I've used sunken ships to distract torpedoes before. Haven't tried hiding above one though.

I've used sunken ships as torpedo magnets before (place it between you and torpedo and unless that torpedo is wire-guided it heads strait for the ship)
But never tried using the air bubbles as a hiding spot hmm
Very nice, thanks for the info!

Along similar "sneaky" lines.. we were following a merchant container ship that the mission required sinking but instead of wasting a torpedo on the merchant we surfaced our sub behind it and waited for one of the escorts (behind us, at long range) to fire a Harpoon (so we were between the merchant and the escort). Of course, we immediately dived to a safe depth. I think you can guess where the escort's Harpoon ended up.. and the merchant ship ;)
I havnt tried this yet, another tactic is to stay underneath a surface merchant to mask your signature.
