Unavoidable Torpedoes?
I am currently running DotMod and I have been playing cold waters for roughly 2-3 weeks. for the past week I have been playing the USSR campaign, I am currently playing the Soviet Kotlin destroyer.

I cannot for the life of me understand how to dodge/trick certain torpedoes such as the "Mark 48 Mod - " torpedoes.

When certain torpedoes get fired at me (such as the Mark 48's) and if they lock on to me (from whatever range), it seems that there is nothing I can to to divert or at least dodge certain torpedoes. They are faster than the Kotlin so running away in a straight line doesn't work, Yes, I use my noisemakers as well as forming knuckles but those tricks do not seem to be effective. Are they following my wake? Am I just bad at playing as a destroyer? Whats the deal.

Thanks in advance :)

Try to attack the launching submarine so it goes on the defensive and the wire breaks.

Surface Ships is a whole DIFFERENT level of pain, and to be honest, CW, even with DotMod, is not very good with surface ships. They are basically modeled as subs that can't dive. Yes, they're fun to play with, but you know in reality you can't be alone fighting half dozen NATO subs. LOL. :) It's just a game. The Modders do put a lot of effort into it, and ships are fun to play, but I personally wouldn't really do an entire campaign with a ship. YMMV. :D

With all that said, Mk 48 is the most powerful torpedo in the game, bar none. Yes, the Soviet/Russian would like to argue that USET-80 or maybe the 65-76 are better in certain aspects, but for general usage, Mk 48 (whichever mod, either the 1984 Mod 4 ADCAP version of the 2000s Mod 6 version) is the best torpedo in the world (with possible exception of British Spearfish) the main reason is due to two facts: it's WIRED, and it has a HUGE range (up to 40 km)

Being a WIRED torpedo, that means the shooter can GUIDE the torpedo AROUND your decoys and noisemakers.

So the MOST IMPORTANT THING when an American sub shoots at you in 1984 or 2000 is you must FORCE HIM TO EVADE! (this will force him to break his wire to the torpedo).

Once the wire is broken the torpedo is MUCH LESS likely to find you and is more susceptible to decoys and noisemakers.

I´m sorry man but you are a ship. A warship even being an AWS is always in disadvantage against a sub.
When you detect a sub attack it inmediately! Give no chance to him and manage to cheat and evade the torpedoes before they lock you conbinating drastic course changing, decoys and top speed of the ship.
There are no magic tricks, wou must be much more intelligent than the AI.

Thanks for the help people! It has worked, giving them no chance has done it.

Thank you
