Mission 9 - Strike From The Sea
In Mission 9 - Strike From The Sea you are supposed to destroy a port and an airport with cruise missiles using 8 TLAM. How you do that? I dont know where to launch the missiles to land in the exact area. This is not covered in tutorials. Any help will be appreciated.

In this mission status report shows you have 8 TASM and 8 TLAM, I think I can not choose. I only see in the map a red icon in the land, should I press space bar and aim directly to that red icon? I tried to do as tutorials suggested with UGM aiming some space before the ship but with the land icon but didn´t work. By the way, TASM is supposed to work with ships?

Yes you need TLAM. TASM is for ships only. You can see the target area at your tactical map with a anchor symbol. Just aim at its general direction with about 3-4km space for the missiles to find its own target in the area. Fire maybe 3-4 missiles at a time then click esc, you should see how many targets hit/left.

For Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) strikes. I like to load up for over-kill with 12 TLAMs in the vertical launch tubes, a couple (2) Harpoons in the torpedo room with all the rest being Mk-48 torpedoes.

I didn´t know you have to launch the TLAM at the same time, I only have 1 vertical launching system (VLS). I tried the mission again and now missiles impact on buildings, but still I have the red icon in the minimap, contrary to the black symbols after destroying an enemy ship/submarine. I am missing something else?

Submarine can carry a lot of VLS (Vertical Launch System) missiles such as those TLAM and TASM. If you got this mission all you have to do is to go to that port location and go to Periscope Depth (50 ft) then launch it from there. You have to manually press reload the VLS by using R key and then repeat until you get 8/8 strike complete.

Note; Make sure you put your cursor before the target port so the TLAM will go directly to the port as it sorts out its sensor by itself.

The UI is limited in being able to show all the VLS tubes. LA class carry a LOT of VLS tubes.

TLAM missions have always been weird. If you don't have any mods, all you have to do is just fire them off. The game counts missile launches, not hits.
The explanations for some missions are bad, but this one is the worst.

The secret victory conditions are to land a certain number of TLAMs within a hidden zone centered on the port. If you recon close emough you can see actual buildings but you don't need to hit those, just the general area. (It's 1984 not 2022)

There's a hidden number of TLAMs you need to hit with. It's not all you carry but nearly all. So don't fire on a path near surface ships that have good AAA or anti-missiles. If more than about one TLAM is shot down you will lose the mission.

And of course there is no AAR debrief to tell you why you failed the mission. Or for that matter, how you succeeded. Bad briefings and bad feedback are of the weaknesses of an otherwise very good game.
