When to use U-materials?

So I am suffering a bit from the "unnerving conserving" syndrome here, and hoarding my U-materials just in case, because what if I find a better new weapon around the corner.

What's the best use for those things, anyway?

Upgrading weapons or for NG+ you can buy Zemurian Ore shards for the strongest weapons.

Use it to strengthen your weapons or trade. U-materials in Trails of Cold Steels can be aquired not only from BOSS but also a lots of common monsters. As long as you spend some time sweeping the map to get enough mira and EXP, it will be hard for you to come to the lack of U-materials.

Don't do my mistake. I bought a bunny tag-along plushie and didn't have enough U-materials for weapons upgrade a while. At least Fie liked it.

Nothing wrong with prioritizing cosmetics.

I'm only in Chapter 4, but I'd say the best use is weapons upgrading and some of the Rare Quartz.

Group B people get their weapons automatically upgraded at the end/start of a Chapter tho, so I'd say the only one that really needs his weapon upgraded is Rean.

As @Tiasmoon said, upgrade Rean's weapon, the rest of it use for whatever you want (except if you're playing NG+).

Upgrade Rean first - the rest will make the chapter easier, but generally they upgrade it on their own shortly afterwards.

Also, after Chapter 2 or so they start dropping WAY more frequently. I'm sitting on 20 of them and just started Chapter 3.

Upgrade Rean, Fie, and Laura's weapon.

Upgrading Rean's weapon is a no-brainer. There is literally never a point in time where you are in a fight without Rean in your party. The others are less urgent, because they're in and out of your party so much. Rare Quartz can be carried with you forever, though. Some of the bonuses on Rare Quartz are pretty useful (especially Speed Up bonuses).

Unfortunately you also need more for weapon upgrades etc. I think the cost was /5 per weapon in Chapter 4.

There are no weapons in chest so don't worry. Personally i upgrade my physical hitter first and if i got extra materials then upgrade the art users.

I don't think you even need to worry about conserving too much. It's so easy to get them and there's multiple ways to do it.
