Bomber Crew
Vienna Flak Tower - Mega Bomb Literally Unplayable
So we have to drop the bomb from high altitude.
Any lower and the plane explodes. That I understand.
But seriously? No navigation at high altitude during the day (no choice of day or night).
But I manage to do soldier through it and get a navigation to hit the tower.
Unfortunately...
THERE
ARE
CLOUDS
EVERYWHERE
I CANT SEE ANYTHING.
How am I supposed to do this?

This mission is far too long and not even critical or part of the main campaign missions.
So why put such a long winded mission only to be hindered at the last part?

Fix this issue. At least get rid of the damn clouds on this mission.
I wasted so much time flying there.

The target glows through the thin cloud layers. Look down for the river, once you cross that on your bomb sights you're very close to the target.
I looked for that, but nothing showed up for me. Dunno if it's because I'm playing on Fantastic or what.
But I shot at the only thing I could see and it hit before the target, which makes less sense as you'd think it'd at least hit after the target if I was shooting at something I could see :/ (As I'm higher up it'd take longer to land)
I'll try and grab a clip from my stream.

I agree day/night should be decided before you start the level and all grand slam levels would always be night

The Grand Slam missions can be frustrating due to the cloud, and its rare that I've managed to drop the bomb on the first pass. More often than not I fly at low-mid altitutde until I see the target appear, I then head up to high altitude. I end up flying over the target as I'm heading up, but it allows me to see where it is, and keep an eye on it through the cloud. Once you're over it just re-target it to turn around and head towards it again, and by the time you're over the target you'll be high enough to drop. You should just be able to see it though the cloud too.
Just done my third attempt at blowing the hell out of the "final" Grand Slam mission and... Lol...
It was directly ON the crosshair in the middle and yet still missed by hitting too early?
How does that work? I highly doubt wind is a factor in this game.

Edit: Thanks Comcastle, that's what I figured out how to do myself, seems you can get away with being somewhere inbetween mid and high alt. Still infuriating.

the crosshair isn't acurate if you are climbing or lowering your altitude

You can wait until dusk before setting off for star navigation.

Who wants to do that I mean wait 20 mins to start a level

you don't need night to do one of these missions, you just fly at low or medium untill you almost reach then go high and bomb it, i think you can see the target no matter if you can navigate or not

There are two tips here being offered separately - let's put them together:

1). You do not have to be at High altitude to drop the bomb. Start at Medium and begin climbing to High *after* you get and lock onto your target indicator. The target should still be visible even through clouds at these altitudes.

2). If you are climbing, your bomb will impact slightly past the target. (By contrast even though it's not relevant here, when diving your bomb will impact slightly before the target)

So start at Medium, acquire the target, begin climbing to High, count "one-one-thousand" after the target passes under the crosshairs, then drop the bomb.
