The Vienna flak tower...
Soooo... Is this mission broken or what? I can't see anything at high altitude because of the cloud cover. It's particularly annoying having to wait 10+ minutes to get there only to realise you can't even see your target.

Your options are to keep flying over it until you get lucky with the clouds, or guess.

I managed like 15 somewhat short passes with good use of lean and still landed, so even with the distance there is some margin.

You drop the bomb a bit before you get to it, so if you see a direction that might clear in time, a custom waypoint so you can approach from that direction works.

As noted in the other big thread on this mission (Please use Search before creating a new thread!) you don't actually have to be "At High Alt. Flying Level" as the mission description states.

Start at Medium Alt. and start climbing toward High Alt. as soon as the target marker pops up. The clouds should still be thin enough to see the Flak Tower as you climb, and make note of culsu's remark that the aiming is off for this big bomb - you have to drop it 1-to-2 seconds *after* the target passes under the crosshairs.

You can drop it anywhere between med and high alt. so you can still be climbing and drop it, but target has to be just behind your crosshairs to hit. Or you can dive, and target has to be just in front of your crosshairs. Practice a little bit and you will git gud.

Forum needs a "high altitude bombing" sticky post

FWIW, many of the Flak Towers not only survived the war, they are still intact (albeit largely abandoned) because they were too sturdy to demolish.

I know. A great testament to German engineering. IIRC the Flak Tower in/around Berlin Zoo was the only one taken down.
