Basalt chopper is the best tool in the game, Obsidian not quite as good, and the Granite grinder has its own uses (different from choppers).
But when a regular rock, a precious stone, a chopper or scraper, and a meteorite all had the same animation for modifying anything, it was easy to deduce that they would share broad modification duties at varying levels of efficiency.
I've got another twenty or so hours of experimentation to complete, I think, before I've got nearly all the combinations confirmed. Or I could rush through the Savannah and Canyon to the Ocean to finish them up in a semi-suicide run. After that, I'll stick up a full guide for people to refer to if they like.
1) Prepare and put down an item that can cure bleeding in your camp.
2) Put down the baby and call a couple of your clan over into an expedition.
3) End the expedition at a sleep spot. This ensures that you can do the below.
4) Go over to the bleeding baby and choose to analyse and switch to it.
5) Now playing as the bleeding baby, pick up the healing item and try to use it.
Babies are able to pick up most small items, or even bigger ones like meat chunks and cocos, but normally cannot perform any alterations of them. With a prepared item, it should theoretically be able to use it like any other member of the clan.
EDIT: Just loaded up a game to test it out. This works.
