Restore Previous Save?
I meant to do a generational leap but stupidly clicked evolution, meaning I've lost the 6 mutations I meant to get from aging my mutated babies BEFORE evolving. Is there any way to go back to an earlier save? I found my save file but that only seems to have one copy for my whole playthrough.

Surely there is a backup somewhere?

No backup save but don't worry you'll get plenty of mutations if you keep playing.

It sounds like you already know about meteorites and mutations so just keep bringing as many babies as possible to the meteorites that will be falling and you'll have more than enough mutations to go around.

But they'll be lost if my elders carrying the mutations die. I was hoping to lock in as many as possible by having 6+6=12 mutations each evolutionary leap.

Not completely lost - they will appear again in new babies.

18 mutations per generation is pretty standard for veteran players. Just keep playing, there will be plenty of meteorites and plenty of mutations.

If your goal is to activate every single neuron by end-of-game you're in for a lot of grindy baby-making. Set your own goals. Activating every neuron isn't necessary to become H. Habilis.

I've sunk 180 hours into one play-through, trust me I'm well and truly grinding. This WAS my goal, lock in as many mutations per leap. I'm on Tuang with only 2 more meteorites to find.

How are you securing 18 mutations per generation? The mutations from babies don't get passed through evolution jumps to become permanent. I have my 12 mutations amongst mutated adults and elders, and maybe 3 random mutations from my babies based on a 50% mutation rate, unless I visit three meteorite sites each evolution cycle - which is a waste of a meteorite as you can't hold them long term.
