62.5% don't manage to make the first sleep spot
Possible spoilers, so don't read further if you are trying to figure this out.

----

[EDIT: I restarted the game and looks like I just walked to the camp with the baby monkey, skipping the hiding place and then the game progressed. But if you go in the hiding place you then take charge of the big monkey, and then the issue with making the sleeping spot does not happen. I wonder how many people did the same thing I did given the low % of completion of this step.]

I started to play this yesterday, given how unique it is. I was not disappointed.

I told myself I would try not to watch guides but when I got to the sleeping spot I could not figure out why it wouldn't work. I grabbed the leaves, I made the stockpile, and I wouldn't get the "start construction".

I read the help prompts to make sure I didn't miss something, but the game was not progressing.

I watched a video, begrudgingly, and it wasn't even the video that showed it, it was a comment under the video that explained that I needed to grab an adult.

Anyway, this morning I noticed I got two achievements. On is the achievement for saving the baby monkey (basically the "you started the game achievement"). 80% of the people who have this on Steam at least started up the game.

The second achievement was to make the sleeping spot – 32% of the Steam owners managed to do it.

That's 70% of the people who bought the game, and 62.5% of the people who actually attempted to play the game didn't get past this spot.

I might have missed the bit of info that talked about switching the monkey to an adult, and if it were just me, then it wouldn't be a problem, but the vast majority didn't get past this hurdle. This is practically a mandatory step.

Whilst I subscribe to the, "We won't tell you much", if you ARE giving the basic instructions on how to start construction but are not letting people know that the baby monkey can't do it, the info you ARE giving is actually becoming unhelpful as you assume you know everything there is to know and you just haven't worked it out.

If there was a prompt that said, "The first sleep spot needs to be made by an adult" it should have maybe be repeated like the construction prompts were.

I am only mentioning this bit because of how the information that IS given leads to not looking for more information that is needed. Not because of wanting to make it easier.

I am pretty happy with trying to work stuff out, it's why I bought it.

The first pop-up in the game says "Use Intelligence to find a Hiding Spot" and shows you the button for Intelligence and what a Hiding Spot icon looks like.

If you had done ^that it would have automatically switched you to an adult.

As I said - I realise that, but I went straight to the camp and the game progressed without it. The first step has a very high failure rate, so some tweaks are needed there imo.

The game has been out for 3 years though so I realise no more updates will ensue.

You're not going to buy a game because it's *finished*? You only want games in perpetual early access??

If I'm not able to complete an achievement due to bugs and there are no planned updates to fix those bugs, then yes. I do not plan to buy a game that does not let me complete the game. Achievements for me are part of completing a game. We all have our reasons for not wasting money and in this instance, that is mine. Thank you.

dunno, I wodner how many bought and never played it, many games have a "dead" amount of people who not even started a game but own it, given those statistics of games with thes ekind of achievments.

I have 100% of achievements, there are no bugs stopping them being completed. Most of the complaints about this game are either skill issues or people having no patience.

or they may hate the way controsl work, I would prefer a better keyboard adaption. It's quite painful to target a specific object if there are many around. But I am sure, there are other reasons some people don't even start games, maybe they get keys, never install them. who knows.

Its has more bugs than Star Ship Troopers.
I wouldn't called that finished.
(But thats nothing new on games that are made by people who taking the free money from Epic and then throw their crap to steam to squeeze the last few bucks out of it.)

I have yet not experienced any bugs. lucky me

Well clearly we're playing different games, because Ancestors is one of the least buggy games I've ever played, and I'm not in a habit of rushing into purchases and ending up disappointed. My general experience of the gaming community is that there are a *hell* of a lot of impatient rage quitters out there, who want their hand constantly holding. Of course, they're not going to enjoy this game because it's not remotely for them, and are therefore much more likely to complain about it.

It's normal to stop playing after you just see weird unexplained shapes everywhere and figure out you don't even know how to drink water. Monkey just sits in water with water in hands but doesn't drink. There is no help but then when you actually need to do something quickly, there is some dodge help screen ruining your ability to see what is happening let alone dodge any snakes behind the help screen. Game should go to pause mode when those help things appear. I'm usually quite patient but this game is really pushing the limits.

I don't mean to come off sounding like I'm flexing my 1337 pr0 64m3r 5ki11z, but I never had any trouble understanding the basics of the game. The only time I ever needed to look at a guide was to figure out what a stripped natal grass stem was used for. Maybe it's just because at the age of 31, I come from an older generation of gaming that couldn't hold your hand as much due to technical limitations, but I really find it astounding how impatient people can be that they won't notice the very obvious audio and visual cues the game is presenting them with unless there's a bright neon sign pointing to them and a booming narrator voice loudly telling them to notice the thing.
