Is this worth it?
I see a lot of positive reviews, but then their playtime is quite low. Most are below 20 hours, and then the odd one is around 40-50 or so. Is this realistically a fairly short game?

It's not a short game from what i've seen, and a seemingly good one. But I think people get distracted with knights and guns before wanting to play monke simulator.

I never played through the entire game but yeah you can maybe expect about 20-30 hours for a playthrough. The gameplay isn't very deep and it gets very repetitive at some point. But I wouldn't say it's a bad game, it's definitely fun to play through once. But you shouldn't expect more than maybe 20-30 hours from the game. There is a reason the game gets positive reviews, but not much more playtime as there isn't really much replay value.

But of course it depends from person to person. Some people enjoy the game for 100+ hours but every game has players that play the game way more than the average player. It's just the majority doesn't.

Thanks, yeah that's what I was thinking. That's not worth it for me then. I saw one person with about 30 hours, and they had 100% achievements. Even for 15 bucks, that's not that great of a value in my opinion. Thanks!

So 50 cent per hour is not great, really? I think 1 euro per hour is great value!

But it really depends on your goals. Sure, you can easily evolve 10m years in 20-30 hours but it's gonna take you much longer to explore the entire map.

Instead of just racing to watch the credits roll, it's far more enjoyable to try to Discover every Landmark (there are 70+ Landmarks). Some of them are really cool and unique (like the pit-caves in the Woodlands).

I bet somebody who says they "finished" the game in 30 hours never saw those pit-caves or fought an Albatross and ate mussels on the eastern coast.

The game is what you make of it - set your own goals. IMHO it's one of the best "Rewarding Exploration" games available.

It took me about 100 hours to finish the first play through. Last time I played, 200+ hours in, I still managed to discover something I'd missed previously. No way does anyone with 20-30 hours discover and experience everything there is to this game.

if you have time to invest it's a really good game, its so much more than what meets the eye and i think the devs went with that approach on purpose. it's not the most refined game out there but it sure tops a lot of survival games out there.

I'm on my 40th hour and I've yet to beat it

I'm one of those that gave it a positive review, but didn't play it much. After hearing about the quality of the game from someone who played more of it than I have, I gotta say that it doesn't seem to be worth any amount of money or even time, and that this game may very well be a scam.

Scam? How?

Scam? How?
Because of how little content actually exists in this game.

There are may secrets, it is also the first game this studio has made.

Worry not, Ancestors 2 is "done on paper" and the team is working on a new IP.

Yeah but that's a different game though. Another game coming out doesn't mean this one has more content.
Also, lots of game have little things off to the side you can do. That's not really a big content aspect, it's just a nice little addition. It doesn't really seem like there are hundreds of hours of content here, like there are for other games, in the same category, at the same price. It looks cool though, so maybe one day, but even on sale right now it's not worth it, in my opinion.
Anthracite Dec 9, 2021 @ 8:26am
The "content" of this game is exploration and learning, it's not about collecting items or doing tasks. If you don't enjoy just wandering around exploring the world then it's not the game for you.
Scyobi_Empire Dec 9, 2021 @ 9:10am
Still don't get how that makes this game a scam, I didn't enjoy Watch Dogs: Legion nor did I enjoy From the Depths but that doesn't make either of those games a scam.

Like Anthracite said, this game isn't for everyone.
