Apart from the occasional faceplant into the ground from about 40 feet up the combat in this title is the only element that I am having issue with.
On the plus side, it legitimately creates fear whenever I get tangled with something, but also it is certain death if that tiger (not the special one) decides to enter my current settlement; the sort of partial cave under a rock outcrop. Had it rip through most of my clan the other night, as I had only arrived at that second camp after evolving, and had nothing set up.
I've seen videos in which you can at least wrestle the damn thing which will eventually scare it off, but even having all other sound at zero, and playing on the pad, both the sound and vibration seem near nonexistent at the moment you are meant to hold/release buttons.
So I hope that someday some wonderful mod maker creates a little helper light, or alternate sound, or something; something a bit more easier to make out and react to. Otherwise the humanity in my save files will be subservient to our panthera-evolved overlords.
As for fighting On joypad hold forward, hold A, when the screen flashes give a 1/2 second pause then release A. Even a miss-hit, or dodge-hit will stick make the creature run.
At that point as it's scampering away scream if you have it, regardless. Big massive clan intimidate, aside from giving it a bit more scare, it will get everyone of you clan to follow you, and has a winder range than clan call, then get everyone of your clan up a cliff, on some outcropping, even stood in the middle of a river aslong as it's not a raging current. Make them stay and go get heal up stuff with 2 of your clan.
So foward and A held down, release A on flash = counter attack.
and Back with A held down, release A on flash = dodge, but you will have to keep dodging.
On PC press Space and W buttom and hold until you heard something like bell and release Space BUT HOLD W) if you attacking. dodge is the same rule but ASD buttoms.
Even with no HUD you get the purple flash and the sound.
What?!?! And that is easy?
What's wrong with attacking with a single button press? Tigers are maiming me! 10 monkeys lost so far to them.
How about not being a prick? This game is way hard on purpose and does not explain basic concepts at all to be deliberately hard. If this was CS, it steam games forums would be on fire and people would be outside Valves offices with pitchforks.
Attacking is much the same. You can do it with or without a weapon (but with a weapon it is more effective). When the predator pounces, hold space (as prompted), face the camera towards the enemy, hold W (or A, S, D for an effective dodge to preserve your stick), and release space when you hear the (faint) sound or when the screen flashes.
Be prepared to have to do it multiple times with boars and lions. Practice on small snakes first. You can kill them in one hit and get rid of the venom by drinking (clean) water.
Once you do it the first time, it does get easier, but you are right. The game never shows you how.
