Where is all the food?
There's like three days worth of food where you start out. Once you leave the nest, there is nothing but Kapok Fiber in my entire jungle.

There are berries spread throughout, as well as horsetails along the river. You can find fruit and cocos in the trees. Mushrooms under rocks and on some trees. Fish and crawdads in fishing spots. Giant snails closer to the swamp. I'm not sure if the honey at the starting nest actually depletes (I've tried 4 times in a row and got some every time). Some eggs up in the eagle nest. If you can kill any of the animals thats also food. Its hard to not find some sort of food in the starting area. (If you get the debuff from eating certain foods, just drink water until it goes away. The food still fulfills your need)

go further and use landmarks till one of them is sufficient
Remember to not only use your eyes, but your sense of smell as well. I don't think fruit or cocos show up when you use your eyes, but they do show up when you are smelling. And your hearing sense can help you find and (hopefully) kill animals for their meat.

Wait that's a debuff when I eat that green-stem next to the river? It shows up as a broken bone but its inside of a blue shield. I'd taken that to mean I should eat that if I break a bone.

No, that isn't a debuff, but a buff. In that case, it will either help to heal an injury (if you are already injured), or give you some protection against gaining an injury (if uninjured). But if you eat something like a mushroom, fish, or animal meat (basically, anything that isn't a leaf or fruit) there is a chance you get a Non-Omnivore debuff (looks like a stomach with green inside). Thats actually a bit of a good thing, as apparently you need to get it (and cure it, either over time or by drinking water) in order to adapt to more food types.

Okay, good. Hey, thanks both of you for speaking up so quick. Do I need to evolve in order to get the fish? I've found a few fishing spots but no prompt appears when I approach.
You need to get a stick and sharpen it (hit it with a rock - you need to have unlocked the ability to switch hands, but that comes very early). Well, it lets you attempt it with just a stripped stick, but I've never caught anything that way. Only with a sharpened stick.

What? Come on dude! There is food everywhere. There are coconuts on the trees, fruits on the trees, and even snails on the floor.

Use your sense of smell to find food. You have to inspect it first.
You need to roam and settle often before you find an oasis where you can stay for long. I love the "katak" (hope its spelled right) oasis. There i could stay ghe hole game. But i roamed deeper in the land later.
I'd not recommend to play without HUDs, especially when you play with keyboard. Without HUD or low HUD functions makes the game unplayable, because you will never know whats going on. I kinda understand that devs wanted to make the game realistic, but the response of the monkeys are not that clear, also the effects are not clear what they would represent. Its clear when blinking effects kicks in ofc that means tiredness but thats all i could figure out by myself.

Thanks Blackpot. I'm using full HUD and still have little clue what's going on. I'm okay with that though. I think the devs wanted to simulate low intellect, by minimizing how much info your primates can process. I guess one thing I'm worried about is if I can't find new digs early on, my tribe is going to starve, unless I take them out in the jungle for food runs. But when they're present they eat an entire food source in one sitting so we'll have to range farther and farther out until just finding food consumes our whole day. And we'll spend most of that day with a half-circle...I finally figured out that Hidden Waterfall Oasis is where I start, so I've stopped looking for that. I wish they'd titled that mission a little differently. Saying "discover" made me think to look elsewhere. I think what they meant was "identify all the stuff around you".
Your clan does not need to eat or drink while at the Settlement - it only becomes an issue if you take them out on Expeditions.

Just make sure they have nothing in their hands around the settlement and they'll do just fine on their own - just eat, drink and sleep yourself.
i still can figure out how to enable the "hand swap" skill... so I cannot eat any complex food and die not long after.. I can grab berry but I dont know how to ingest.. same for water, I could not find how to drink.. I scoop, scoop, scoop, but nothing happens
