It will shrink naturally over time as your primate ages. It will shrink faster if your primate takes a lot of damage and/or you don't keep him well fed, hydrated and rested.
And resting isn't just sleeping - make sure you pause from time to time to catch your breath as you're doing strenuous stuff like climbing trees or rocks, jumping around a lot or sprinting a lot.
A red ring appears around the green circle when you do ^this stuff. The longer that ring is there, the faster you're lowering the primate's life expectancy. Do the best you can to keep that red ring from sticking around to extend your life expectancy.
But the bottom line is, all primates will eventually get too old to exert themselves for long periods. At that point consider switching to a primate in better condition or advancing a Generation.
