Cool!

Does the Day One video contain spoilers as well? I've figured out a lot on my own so far, but it would be nice to know for sure how the hud works.

Some tool based spoilers below

Are there any more tools to make?
I have a feeling there has to be more, most online guides have very little information (for example most claim that the granite grinder works only on khat, when it grinds horsetail plants up too.

The obsidian chopper seems to be useless when the basalt cutter is better in every way. I was thinking you could maybe combine a stripped stick with fibre (or maybe sinew from a dead animal) then combine the obsidian chopper with the modified stick to make an axe.

There have to be more recipes, maybe they haven't been added in yet and will arrive in future updates or (hopefully not) DLC.

No more tool types, that's everything.

But there are expansions/sequels planned that move us closer to more complex tool-creation.

Obsidian Scraper = 6 hits to sharpen a stick.

Basalt Chopper = 3 hits.

*BUT* Basalt is harder to find - Obsidian is all over the place in most biomes.

For this reason, if you make a Basalt Chopper try to hold on to it and bring it with you if you change settlement locations.

I have a pile of basalt choppers in the starting biome in which I'm trying to develop and reinforce as many neurons as possible.

Updates and expansions will be great. As much as I love the game it really does feel like a proof of concept than a fully fleshed out game. It could have done with a 6 month early access period if you ask me, I feel the (user, not reviewer) metacritic scores would have been much kinder to it then; however I don't know what pressure the developers were under to release and the updates have addressed some of the issues.

Having two cutting tools just feels odd. It also doesn't seem scientifically correct to make basalt hold a better edge than obsidian. Obsidian is used in (some very fancy) scalpels as it is sharp right down to a molecular level, compared to steel scalpels which look more like a sawblade under a scanning electron microscope. I'm not 100% sure about basalt but as it isn't a glassy rock I would assume it has a poorer edge. Obsidian is also rarer IIRC as it requires very specific chemical conditions and volcanic activity to form.

It's why I had hoped we would get an obsidian axe as axes were one of the first "compound tools" to be developed after knives (sharpened rock wrapped in skin or fibre on one end so the user doesn't cut themselves) and hammers (which are obviously less useful than an axe.

I mean if we can build walls from sticks or bushes an axe would be useful for stripping branches, sharpening sticks, fighting enemies etc. It isn't unrealistically advanced like a bow either.

Speaking of bows (well firebows) however, I hope there is a "finding fire" update, however fire would probably be first struck from two rocks onto a pile of dried grass, a firebow would come later with the understanding of friction and heat.
