If you're next to what looks like a canyon wall, lead the clan along the wall one way and see if anything starts to look familiar. If not, return to the settlement, eat, drink, rest, then try following the wall the other way.
I made my way back to the original settlement a few times before I just stuck with the new home.
I've been moved 4 times in evolution jumps.
SPOILERS:
You need to travel South West. Keep the lake on your right side. I you stick close to the canyon wall you'll find a cave- go through that. If you don't (easier to travel a bit further down) you'll bump into the river, which will take you through swamplands. After that, you'll be back at the starter jungle- pass through two big rock arches, and you should be able to see your original settlement.
Note. It's a long way, with plenty of dangers. You'll need spears or get really good at flinging poo. I'd suggest setting up camp a few times. It's roughly two/three days worth of travelling.
I liked the injection of urgency - trying to lead my tribe out of danger, constantly short of food and water, making my way through new territory and conquering my fears. It's a nice change of pace from the usual exploration.
My only concern is that, since they have something in their hands, they no longer eat or drink when I do. Will this affect their health and potentially kill them?
My apes now drink and eat with one hand, I thinking you need to research this one trough neural development. Not sure either.
Yes they will die from starvation/thirst if you leave them armed. They won't die if you settle an area though. Their needs don't tick down when they are at a settlement. You can also give them rocks and bones to defend themselves and this is better than the stick when traveling since these items don't break. You need the ability to counterattack unlocked though to use any of these abilities.
That will be something for Volume 2.
