Location jump after evolving
So after 8 or so generations I finally decided to evolve, even though I'm nowhere near done exploring the jungle and I was still based at the original settlement. The evolution jumped me to a new location next to a small pond and some cliffs, which was completely indefensible and I lost an adult male to a tiger attack. I think I'm still in the jungle, but I have no idea where I am. Abandoning the site, I led my my clan in what I hoped was the direction to the old settlement, but the river is much larger than before. Am I still in the jungle, or is this a new biome? Is there any way to return to the old settlement?

If you can find it, you can always return to the original settlement. Look for landmarks you know in the intelligence view.
If you're next to what looks like a canyon wall, lead the clan along the wall one way and see if anything starts to look familiar. If not, return to the settlement, eat, drink, rest, then try following the wall the other way.
I made my way back to the original settlement a few times before I just stuck with the new home.
I've been moved 4 times in evolution jumps.

I've done the exact same thing as you, OP. I was surprised by the location jump, didn't like it, and looked for a way back.

SPOILERS:

You need to travel South West. Keep the lake on your right side. I you stick close to the canyon wall you'll find a cave- go through that. If you don't (easier to travel a bit further down) you'll bump into the river, which will take you through swamplands. After that, you'll be back at the starter jungle- pass through two big rock arches, and you should be able to see your original settlement.

Note. It's a long way, with plenty of dangers. You'll need spears or get really good at flinging poo. I'd suggest setting up camp a few times. It's roughly two/three days worth of travelling.

It was quite the adventure. I spent two days following the cliffs and river, crossing several fast-flowing streams in the process. Although we managed to avoid a number of predators, I was ambushed several times by tigers but managed to mostly fend them off with stripped branches. I eventually found a good location for a settlement - a crescent-shaped cave/overhang bordering a pool. Unfortunately, I'm down several apes so I may have to search for loners to get my strength back up.

I liked the injection of urgency - trying to lead my tribe out of danger, constantly short of food and water, making my way through new territory and conquering my fears. It's a nice change of pace from the usual exploration.

Honestly, leaving the settlement and exploring new places to colonize is what gives the game so much life. Don't be afraid to explore the jungle and settle in new and interesting spots. The starting area may give you everything that you need but there is so much cool stuff to see.
Evert location gives you everything you need. But some have more predators than others

So after returning to camp with a new recruit to help replenish my ranks, I learned the value of having my fellow apes armed. I had given them just stripped branches, but as I returned to camp the damned tiger that had been stalking us spawned just inside the camp and ambushed me. I managed to dodge, but as the tiger turned and attacked one of my tribe, the ape counterattacked with his stick and killed it! So, now all my apes have sharpened sticks!

My only concern is that, since they have something in their hands, they no longer eat or drink when I do. Will this affect their health and potentially kill them?
Just leave the branches on the ground, if danger arise, they'll pick it up and defend themselves. At least I think they did, unless I imagined it. Im not 100% sure on that one basically.

My apes now drink and eat with one hand, I thinking you need to research this one trough neural development. Not sure either.

Yes they will die from starvation/thirst if you leave them armed. They won't die if you settle an area though. Their needs don't tick down when they are at a settlement. You can also give them rocks and bones to defend themselves and this is better than the stick when traveling since these items don't break. You need the ability to counterattack unlocked though to use any of these abilities.

okay so i know im pretty late to ask in here after year or something 😂 but... first time it threw me to this location, will it throw me somewhere else after next evolution? cuz i feel like i don’t really wanna go to desert areas... and i know the map well because during first monkey play through i didn’t realize i could do something like evolving that fast, so ive been traveling around with my armed monkey fellows 😂😂 we lost a lot of good hairy soldiers by passing through jungles. when it got to me that i could just stay at my favorite place for decades i delated that save and started new one. so, will it throw me to the desert soon?

Maybe not soon, but at some point you're going to get put there. You don't really have any control over where your clan starts after an evolution.

Yeah it's random (but you may not get moved at all).

okay, i probably tried everything now with rocks hitting each other. i even brought meteor to my base and started to hit stuff together. even with some valuable rock. nothing seems like giving sparks. i understand that science seen only ♥♥♥♥ erectus the one controlling fire but there’s no proof they didn’t done same thing waay waay back ago. so is it really like this? no fire in the game? eat leafs to get warm? don’t cook meat on later timeage?

No fire, no tools other than a sharpened stick or rock.

im sort of disappointed. fire hs been created 2 million years ago, had to be available at the end of the game. spears with sharp stones were discovered even way before... what a shame

How would People feel discovering Fire and then *Game Over*?

That will be something for Volume 2.
