If you don't have a GPU, the computer doesn't fulfill the minimum conditions.
The Microsoft support page says the stop code error "memory management" is related to the RAM and it only happens with this game.
I'd start with the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool that's built into Windows. If that doesn't help, try MemTest86. It's a more thorough test of your memory.
Thanks for the tip about that diagnostic tool as I didn't know I had that and have just checked it out. I'll run the reboot and test later as it might take a while but in a way I hope it detects a fault with the RAM because it will make me finally open up the PC for the first time since buying it 16 months ago to replace the RAM and see what kind of GPU can fit in there. I have Memtest on a CD but it was for a 32 bit system so probably wouldn't even run on a 64 bit system.
RAM issues can definitely be a pain. On an old XP system the DVD/RW drive suddenly disappeared from windows manager so I could no longer use it. I tried re-seating all the cables inside the PC and after six months of hair pulling I still couldn't work out why the optical drive was no longer listed as a device. I finally checked the RAM with memtest and it detected errors on one of the 1Gb sticks. I removed it leaving a 1Gb in another slot and the optical drive re-appeared. Not sure how dodgy RAM can stop the optical drive from working but it did for six months.
