What are you talking about? Legally no game dev company or publisher can have copyright on concepts.
Or if the devs could add some mod support to help people make this be a reality.
Theme Hospital also has such a feature.
Maybe I didn't mean concept then, I was thinking about look and feel. It's pretty much Theme Hospital only in 3D!
Never heard of commercial NDA's then.
Oh and trademarks are concepts as well.
Both can be and are pretty extensively kept from "other" creators/inventors/manufacturors el la (etc) businesses.
Its common place. So common place, they started (in the 70s) doing it to individual people.
What you mean is artistic freedom/design. However, say with the example of coca cola and pepsi, they don't have the same indgredients (even though very similar) due to trademark concept and NDAs. Same with videogames. There can't be another pong without Atari's consent or another simcity with EA's consent (now, used to be Maxis, oh how I miss maxis.) etc
Embrace what we have and like someone else said offer the idea of maybe buying a dlc with more soundtracks but overall just hope for a general dlc that includes soundtracks.
I'd think this game went down well. I know I've loved it so lets hope they will do more with this IP.
Who was talking about trademarks here, gramps? Just because TPS made their music the way they did, doesn't mean they infringed on anything, otherwise EA would've probably sued them by now.
Also yes, I'm sure Two Point Studios had to get EA's consent to create and develop Two Point Hospital.
I'm also sure Colossal Order had to get EA's consent to create and develop Cities: Skylines.
Oh, and ConcernedApe (Stardew Valley)had to have Natsume's/Nintendo's consent of course (Harvest Moon).
Do I need to go on or are you getting the idea?
You're splitting hairs, in my opinion.
A game company cannot trademark and/or copyright a theme. The can do so for the name, characters, etc but they cannot trademark the theme.
DayZ, 7 Days To Die, Ark: Survival Evolved, Minecraft, Life Is Feudal. They're all based on a common theme: Survial and Building.
Battlefield, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor. They're all based on the first person shooter war theme.
League of Legends, DOTA II, SMITE. They're based on the MOBA theme.
Sim City, Cities Skylines are based on the city builder theme.
The onlything trademark/copyrightable is the title and assets within that game. Assets include characters, items, models, music, etc.
