Hello explorers,
It’s been a few months since you first set foot in the cursed jungle of The Mound, and with our first Major Update arriving this week, we wanted to take a moment to look back. Thanks to your feedback, your reports and your support, the game has come a long way since launch. If you haven’t played in a while, here’s what’s waiting for you.

The jungle has grown more crowded, and not in a good way. Five new creatures now lurk in the depths of the forest, and they have a nasty habit of showing up exactly when you least expect them. The island also has new secrets to uncover. Jewel boxes are hidden all across the mainland.

Grab your map, track every one of them down, and you’ll unlock a brand-new Occult Item in the shop: the Rosary. And just when you thought you’d seen it all, a new sanity illusion has joined the ones already waiting to mess with your mind.

You asked for more ways to deal with what the Mound throws at you, and we listened. The biggest change is the new block ability, which helps you hold your ground instead of getting overrun. Blocking an attack also briefly stuns the enemy, giving you a window to strike back. Backstabs have been reworked as well. They now work on enemies that are already after you and deal significant damage, so flanking a creature while a teammate keeps it busy is now a real team strategy. On top of that, every mission now starts with a machete, knives hit harder, pole weapons reach further, and you keep a bit more stamina and speed when you’re exhausted.

The Mound is at its best with friends, so we’ve put a lot of work into everything that brings you together. The new Quickmatch option drops you straight into a game without ever opening the server list. If you’d rather pick your session, matchmaking filters for region, language and more help you find the right crew. To find your friends, every lobby now generates its own join code, and you can add an optional encrypted password for private sessions. We’ve also completely overhauled the in-game voice chat, fixing the robotic voices and silent microphones some of you experienced, including during crossplay. We strongly recommend using it. The game’s audio is spatial, and some sanity effects use your voices, so you don’t want to miss out.

The Command Wheel 2.0 is here, and by popular demand, you can finally stop the cart and give its driver instructions. Back on the ship, you can now pet Carlito the Ox. It might be the most important addition of all.

Your efforts now pay off more. Saints are equipped right at the ox wagon before each expedition, and their blessings cost less. Contracts give more tokens, and rescuing a character on the mainland now counts as a successful contract, even if the treasure doesn’t make it back. If you ever lost progress, a new recovery tool on every platform rebuilds it from your achievements and trophies.

On first launch, you can now choose between a cinematic camera and a standard camera. The standard camera may feel more responsive and help if you’re prone to motion sickness. You can organize your inventory with the mouse at the wagon, or rearrange your hotbar with a gamepad.

Under the hood, improved PC performance profiles, new geometry streaming technology and memory optimizations make the game smoother and more stable on every platform, with far less pop-in on the horizon. If you ever get stuck somewhere, a new “teleport to safety” option gets you out without sacrificing the whole mission. We’ve also fixed a long list of crashes, freezes and inventory issues along the way.

None of this would have been possible without you. Every bug report, every video and every suggestion shared on Discord or in the Steam Discussions helped us make The Mound better. And this is only the beginning: our first big update is just around the corner, and the jungle still has plenty to show you…

See you out there, explorers.
