500 hours of content, where?
I'm only 60 hours in but I've done nearly all the icons on the map, pretty much everything in old villedor and most of it in central loop. I'm not far in the story, i don't even have the grapple hook yet, I only just arrived at the PK ship. But the story alone won't take up much time, because it's like what, 20 hours? So even doing it multiple times for different endings will only add another 60 hours at most (probably much lower because each subsequent time will be faster).

the 500 hours claim was made before content updates existed, so ng+, chapters/agents and bloody ties don't count. there's still a bunch of parkour challenges but they're only 1-2 minutes each and every one I've done so far I got gold on my 1st try with plenty of time to spare so it's not like it's a challenge that will take up a lot of time retrying.

Finding every collectible will take some time but not like hundreds of hours worth. Unless you attempt it without a guide then maybe it could take you a few hundred hours trying to find the last few remaining. But I doubt it's counted as gameplay content to spend hundreds of hours running around everywhere spamming survivor sense every 2 seconds until you finally come across a missing collectible.

And for the achievements, the only really long one would be the marathon one to run a bazillion kilometres. no idea how long that takes but again I can't imagine any sane dev would boast about their game's amount of content if a majority of it is literally just running and not doing any content. Cus then you could make the most basic walking sim game and have an achievement for 5 trillion kilometres and say your game has 10 thousand hours of content in it.

So, I just don't see how there's enough content in the game to get anywhere near the claimed 500 hour mark. Sure, I can see how you can get hundreds or even thousand of hours out of it like many did in the first game, but that's not how long it takes to do everything, it's just how long it's fun for.

I mean e3 stuff is obviously a lie, that's just to be expected, sadly. But claims right before the game comes out, I expect them to have a modicum of truth to them.

That's true for literally any game. The 500 hour claim was specifically for completing all available content, NOT how much time someone potentially might spend until they're bored.

Imagine if Dishonored was boasted to have 500 hours of content in it because there's some superfans that play it religiously. However, doing all the content and 100%ing the game only takes like 50 hours. Clearly, the amount of time you can play for does not equal the amount of time it takes to actually complete all the content.

I did every side quest that wasn't busy work, did every single map POI (settlements, metros, bandits, GRE anomalies and buildings, airdrops, radio towers, etc.) in 68 hours.

I could MAYBE see the leftovers (combat and parkour challenges, and collecting the 200+ collectibles - many of which I already picked up during my playtime). taking another 30 to 40 hours if I REALLY took my time.

No ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way this game has anywhere near 500 hours of genuine content to 100% it. Not even close.

EDIT: I forgot there is the sunken zone if you make certain choices, which I did not. No way there's 400 hours of content there though; probably 10 to 15 tops.

EDIT 2: Pulled a gamer move and posted before actually reading the top post. Funny thing OP, we played the game almost exactly the same and in about the same amount of time, and have the same view toward the remaining content. I cleared basically everything on the map before getting the hook (except for the places I couldn't due to not having it), except the busy work challenges.

well there is a lot of bugs and glitches for u to find and abuse. For example u can get a weapon thanks to glitch to oneshot volatiles, also u can do new game + several times to collect all collectibles

Yes, exploits aside, I have multiple decades in of gaming knowledge. I ALWAYS start out my first playthrough on easy (or even story mode)...I do this because I WANT TO SEE how iron-mannable (I know I made that word up yet YOU gamers know what I mean) the level designs are. Plus it allows you to feel like a true powerhouse without having to CHEESE (read=exploits are the creme de la creme of cheese) and strategy every aspect of the level. Most people play the hardest they thing they can handle, and with the unlimited respawns aspect they usually do just fine with that on average, although in some titles it can punish you even softlocking you for your lack of skills until you learn how to beat the respawn. Or you lower the difficulty. So now you know how say one game expert starts all their runs. You can then take this to my POINT in this first paragraph. What this is pointing towards proving.

That you can take your playtime (because you playing on harder/hardest like most YOUNG good gamers tend to do right), and triple that. Because now you have 2 other levels in order to get that completionist (in DL2 that would be medium & hard). So that is where I am at with games like these. DL1 I played the campaign 2/3 on normal, then bumped it down to story mode for the last 1/3. Now for newgame+ I will attempt to beat HARD in new game plus, then I have only more MORE playthrough that would be appropriate for a character with all that gear and skills unlocked. Of coarse that is newgame+nightmare. Oh wait, I forgot, then there are 3 MORE levels of difficulty perhaps. Playing NEWGAME (without the PLUS)on medium, hard, and nightmare. So you can see how many levels of content DL1 has in such games is you want to be completionist and beat all the difficulty levels in PROGRESSION.

So for the op, take that 70 you played through and beat in on hard, and turn that into 210 hours for doing completionist on all 3 separate difficulties Still a far cry from 500 that someone claimed, yet at least you are getting closer now.

So word to the wise. Test out how well a game is made, play it on story mode OR easy for your first run. See how many times you die. It will still be a lot more than you think it will be in games like these. IF your first run a was AN IRONMAN run on such low difficulties (which through YOUR OWN user created content you could always implement such a mod in your mind obviously to extend difficulty options again) just like how you get ONE save usually in this RL life, well you can see how that could turn into a LOT of content right there.

Remind you can do this with ALMOST any game, DL1 / DL2 cyberpunk, you name it!

Peace!

Also, you could take the UI off in the first one, and also remove all the map points / directions...I am new in DL2 so I will have to see if it has those options OR will add them! This can be termed HARDcore Mode! So play Hardcore Mode on NGIHTMARE newgame to get your hardest Dying Light Difficulty (only da best of the best obviously).

You play with 3 friends, and since you can't progress together, you have to play through 4 times. That's 200+ hours if you are maxing everything. Then do that again because the game is unfinished and your save file got corrupted. And repeat.

its so weird how nobody understands the 500 hours comment even after they explained it months ago
Get every single ending for the game (Solo PK, Solo Survivors, Lawan Survivors, Solo Nuked, Hakon Nuked, Solo Renegades)
Pick every single choice (side quest, dialogue, main quests)
Complete every side quest and get every ending for each side quest
Find all collectibles
Find all Easter Eggs
Max out every blueprint
Max out your skill tree and inhibitors
I probably forgot some stuff, but this would take a pretty long time to do, unless you know what your doing. This statement was also made before NG+ inhibitors expansion and the 2 chapter agents so they dont count, also originally there was 117 mementos and 63 tapes so the new Shen Xiu and Bloody Ties ones dont count either

Well technically your at 67 hours of reading this and only half the achievements :) But yeah you cant take a single thing seriously these days they say before games come out. I mean look at Cyberpunk 2077 they axed so damn many things before the game launched its comical.

Im at around 94 hours on PS5 and still missing a few trophies but yeah definately no where near 500 hours. Im over halfway through NG+ with those hours also.

yes, i think i may refund. Most of us here known DL1 is a pure classic and great value. Yet for some reason this one just seems to be missing something key. Dead Island 2 may be superior, well hopefully it is. I think I will go back to my NewGame+ Hard runthrough in DL1 I was just on. BTW, first time playing that difficulty of coarse. It's blown me away what a different experience it is from my normal/story mode one. The AI seems nicely cranked up :)

Do you think they will ever add pvp etc? Have they ever mentioned that? Because DL1 has mounds of content, and also pvp as we all know. How about the CoOp, I mean if I were to actually get 100 hours out a well programmed game with 3 other people I would surely count that worth my expenditure in cash so far! Like mean how DL1 does the CoOp so superbly, with people being able to pop into your world here and there like as in Watch Dogs series (well 2 and Legion)...because if they have some of that goodness, I will probably keep this!
