The fact that they are out at night isn't a huge problem, makes running around tense and I like that, but they are cropping up in like level 1 side missions that make the missions either impossible to complete or incredibly tedious. It wasn't like that when the game first came out. I did the "Princess in the tower" side mission, which is like level 1, one of the first you can do, and the place it sends you to has TWO volatiles, I could only complete the mission by crouching right by a UV zone and just swiping at their legs for like 15 minutes before the mission would let me open a door (all enemies needed to be dead). I've also read that in some of the "Bloody Ties" DLC missions, they are literally impossible because of the new volatiles don't have bloody ties so I can't confirm that myself.
That has been my experience so far, main story missions are fine, but side missions can be really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ like they didn't test properly, feels more like an update for new-game plus players who already have all the best gear and legend levels etc.
It also kind of messes with the campaign storywise, because the whole introduction to the howlers doesn't make any sense now.
IMO the hunts should be put off until you reach the Central Loop.
I don't think I've even seen a howler since the update, to be honest. Just Banshee's, Bolters and Spitters at night, so far. And Volatiles, of course.
As for Carnage Hall's two missions that pit you against an overly durable Volatile on a time limit. I just said screw it. Easy difficulty, collect Molotovs and DIY Grenades and spam them. Finish him off with a few seconds to spare.
