"True Friends" sidequest impossible after update
I started a second NG (not ng+) with the community event participation turned off. True Friends is a mission where you have to follow a kid and some dogs into a building, fight a goon, then make a decision about the dog.

After this patch there are now at least 6 volatiles inside the building along with all the virals that were already there. The quest still spawns the goon when you talk to the kid, but the volatiles make the quest impossible. Even just trying to take out the goon, the volatiles kill you in 2-3 hits.

Has anyone found a way around this? I guess I'm glad this is just a sidequest being unplayable rather than a main quest, but it's a shame I won't get the rewards from it.

edit: the volatiles are swarming the inside of the building both during daytime and nighttime.

Sleep twice. Just because night is falling doesn't mean that those volatiles scamper away.

Sleep to hit morning, sleep again to trigger nightfall and they should be gone.

i did exactly this, and it unfortunately didn't work

I know exactly what you mean. Just start a NG+ and play the quest "Unruly Brother" where you have to find Birdie in an empty house. Entering the house and expecting nothing worse I was suddenly surrouded by 3 volatiles which took me out in a second.
Now I'm warned to be carefull since I know that Volatiles are roaming even in Houses. Ok, with the right gear it is for me no problem. But doing some nightquests seems to be now unplayeble in a fresh game.

yep - i didnt want to start an ng+ so i went back with a fresh save, and i wont be able to play several quests (including the one with Mya's music box) which makes leveling slower.

Don't be afraid to start a NG+. Ok, the infectet are stronger but you'll also find better weapons and gear. Depending on your level up to 9.

Just tried doing the quest, can confirm there are too many volatiles in the building to deal with at any level.

Edit: Quitting to main menu after talking to Moe caused the volatiles to despawn when there at night.

Had the same issue with some sidequests.

Was able to do one sidequest with only 2 volatiles by cheapshotting them at the doorway. Which takes ages being only lv2.

And apparently they can follow you outside the buildings when you lure them out at day. I really hope that's just a bug.

It happened to me a few times as well, while farming the Tyrant. I know that he is immune to sunlight probably ("Tyrants can pounce on the player even if the light is present") but his proteges shouldn't be but they hunted me even in the day. Sometimes trying to hit me, and sometimes just running around in circles until I killed them all. Probably a glitch.

Just go to the entrance to the building with the hole, quit to menu then continue and volitales will be gone.

i guess thats cool, but it would be better if you didnt have to exploit out-of-game crap to make the game playable

Blud what are you smoking I recently did a new game plus and there was barely even any normal walkers in that building

Did it have maybe a yellow marker? Like the NG+ Special Bandits do? It's a special event in that location, if you get killed by the volatiles it'd likely go away.

no, like i said i had turned off special events. i did get killed, many times, and they were still there
