why are there no elevators?
(google translator)
New player (170h) asks, why are there no elevators? Let me explain, hypertubes are cool, but what I want are freight elevators, especially for vehicles.

Building roads in some areas can take days (if you want to make them decent, and I still haven't mastered making curves), but if there were elevators, I could simply build paths up to the wall, place the freight elevator, have it be activated by weight or something like that and go up or down.

I haven't seen things that seem much more complex in the game.

Nobody knows for sure why there are no elevators. The devs said a while ago they had no plans for elevators but never provided their reason. Maybe they think that hypertubes and jump pad are enough? No idea.

If you want nicely curved roads you will need mods.

Development time, is the main reason.
They have been working on the game for 8 years. To make a decent Elevator system is a bit of an undertaking

Makes sense. Feature creep is real.

The elevator concept is simple, and I think I could do it, if I knew how to mod the game. The problem is you'd need to mod trucks to sit and wait for the floor to come back up or down, though I have ideas on how to reduce that time.
Edit: I just thought of something, that you don't need to mod trucks, just record to have them sit and wait while on the elevator. Have the elevator floor just magically appear when the truck gets near.

It's funny they don't want to add curved roads either. Their excuse is lame "We have to completely change stuff" Horse hockey! Unreal Engine has a feature that lets you build curved structures with a curve object. Even Godot, an inferior game engine, has this (probably as an addon). I think it's how they made train tracks.

Again, modders most likely solved this.

I could it in a day if I knew how to mod. The time would be in modeling the elevator and making it look decent. But even then, should only take a few hours. Make the dimensions same as a 4m foundation. Snap several together to add height. How long does coding such a thing take? Good question. Did they code their game in ASM? No, C++ and blueprints. So again, a few hours there.

What I am saying is, this shouldn't be difficult. Yea, math is hard; besides that though. But really, I am ignorant on what could take them sooooooo long.

Making it good enough for a mod is easy. Making it good enough for an official release is hard. They have to support the constant complaints that it'd generate if it wasn't perfect.

So, you're basically have no idea what you're talking about, right? You don't know how to mod and you don't know what it takes to create a mod? But you say you could do it in a day? How can you make such statements with a straight face?

How? Because the Dunning-Kruger effect is one hell of a drug.

The famous "I'm not a doctor, but I think..."?

They've also had problems with vehicle physics in general, right? I've seen clips of people getting launched into the air for no apparent reason in older updates. Adding a moving object they have collision with would probably cause more physics bugs

Elevators? And risk the Pioneer to become even more lazy? I'm pretty sure ADA doesn't like that idea; Pioneers need their daily excersize.

There's a mod for this, works great.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Why don't you try to use your imagination and common sense? How hard is it to model a elevator? How hard is it to tell the elevator floor to appear and move? I have some experience with Unreal Engine, and 3D modeling, texturing, etc.. So to me it doesn't seem like a hard problem to solve. It isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rocket science.
