Do Mercer Spheres have any use?

I looked this up, but all I can find is information for pre-1.0.

It seems prior to release, they basically had no use and clog up inventory space since you can't sell them for coupons. Has this changed?

Asking since they're clogging up my inventory space!

There is a new tech tree in the MAM which uses mercer spheres and somersloops.

Spheres and Somersloops both you need to keep, store them in the HUD storage for later when you are ready to use them

Besides unlocking the tech tree, mercer spheres are also needed to place dimensional depots. If you don't need to unlock the tree with spheres, you'll have more spheres available to place depots.

And sloops doubles the output of a machine without increasing its input cost at the cost of quadrupling the power cost. They also need 10 sloops to build the power augmented which gives you 10-30% more power
