Is it normal...
To wonder how the hell am I going to be able to produce 1000 smart plates when I am only like 5 hours into the game?

I am absolutely loving it, and I'm sure I will solve it somehow (and don't want tips or anything yet) just my mind is boggled, that it took me ages to produce 50 of the smart plating, now I need to produce so so so much more along with things I haven't even unlocked yet. lol.

At least I have zero spaghetti. my factories look amazing. (prob not efficient in the slightest and not great for the future, but they look stunning.)

Edit: 1000, not 1500.

This is how 'progress' in the game looks - the factory must grow.

As far as tips and spoilers: I recommend staying away from forums and videos until you've either completed the in game progression points (i.e., not purely self inflicted), or are genuinely completely stuck. Much of the joy in the first 'playthrough' (which is really just a big tutorial) is in learning and discovering things on your own and devising your own solutions.

Think big, but keep it small. Good luck on the assembly project!

You do get more advanced tech that helps you build easier. That stuff comes at the cost of even crazier and outlandish goals you have no idea how to satisfy.

1000 smartplates could seem a lot, in reality Is a milestone that you.can start now and keep going producing in background while you continue expansion and unlock other things in tiers you are in.

Your smart plate factory will make the 1000 you need while you're off building your next beautiful factory. :) (If your factory is making, say, 3 plates a minute, in another 5 hours you will have made 900 already).

There are 2 key factors for this:
1) Time.
It's going to take you a while to build up steel and finish everything in Tiers 3 and 4, so even at 2/min you should easily be able to make enough plating by the time you've finished making your factory.
2) Mass production.
If you want something, don't make a temp machine to make a couple dozen, use the resources from other production lines to automate it! 5/m is a fairly reasonable goal.

If you think that's a lot... wait until you see the Versatile framework requirements for Phase 3... not to mention all the prereq parts...

Just keep expanding,
Get a basic production line running,
You will get there, just don’t rush it.

You do this one plate at a time, no pun intended. If you think it's not going fast enough: create more assemblers, maybe also try to increase the production of the required base materials.

Then slowy, but steadily, boost the production a bit.

Oh man just wait til the final 8 and 9 tiers. 1000 Smart Plates is nothing. Like everything else said.... expand but keep it simple. You have a super abundance of resource nodes to milk. The only limitation is your creativity.

My latest playthrough I made factories that ended in elevator parts and the early ones like smart plating I made 10/m. Once your factory is set up and making your item that you need, move on to the next factory with the next item you need. When you are making that, start working on another factory for something else like a weapons factory or go exploring or go build your next power plant. Or just leave your game running and take a nap.

Well, look at it this way, the difference between the end of Tier 2 and Tier 4 is that you can effectively have 2-4x the output from a single resource node (from mk1 miners and mk 2 belts to mk2 miners and mk 3 belts). So, say you are able to set up 4 Assemblers making Smart plating at default speeds, that's 20/minute total. That's now only 50 minutes to get 1000.

Doesn't seem so big now, does it?

Yes, very much so. Big numbers are intimidating, but as others have said, small production numbers are not. I thought I was going to take an entire real-life day to meet the modular frames goal, but by the time I finished my next project, the entire factory was backed up.

I moved my steel, concrete and encased beam factories. By the time I remembered I needed to move the manufactured products from the original location to the new one, the new one was already full and backed up, so I just dumped them into the sink instead.

Cheers guys.

my wife had to force me to come off yesterday past midnight (had work at 6, but called in sick as I want to grow my factory... I know, first sickie in years though.)
as I was trying to chain a stack of biomass generators together with a production chain of fuel. I was most satisfied when it was complete... then this morning I unlocked coal :p

Can't wait to tackle that today as I have literally no idea how it works, and can't wait to find out.

been gaming since the 80s, and not had a pull for "one more turn/constructor" for a game like this since the civ series.

Wait until last Space elevator phase - it'll require 1000 Nuclear Pastas ;-)
