To the best of my knowledge a node has not been intentionally removed since v0.3.1.0, back in February 2020.
There was a bug early in v4 Experimental where some bauxite nodes were accidentally removed, and alter restored.
Ignoring whether there was or wasn't a second node there: adapting the available resources of an area to fit your factory is really the core of the gameplay loop. If you need more iron there, bring in more iron. It's not difficult, and you have a lot of options available to accomplish that task. You could also relocate some of the production you were doing there to relieve the pressure on the iron resources.
Honestly though, if the removal of a single pure iron node is ruining your game, this might not be the game for you.
Imaging upset when you came back to the old store 3 years ago and mad when the employee changed.
Your right because trains are the only way to transport things especially with coal right there. I wish they would introduce trucks into the game.
