How to place player markers on the Compass?
I find it odd that is satisfactory player markers do not appear on the compass. Most games allow this as a player marker means the play likely want to return to that location without opening and closing the map ~20 times to slowly adjust overland navigation. I spent some time researching this to learn that this functionality is supposed to be captured by "beacons" with an adjustable distance configurable in the "beacons menu" I spent quite a bit of time in frustration unable to find those features and menus in 1.0. More research revealed that beacons, and presumably all related functionality, have been removed from the game. OK now I'm stuck. I want to place markers for my couple of factory bases which appear on the Compass. There appears to be no way to do this. I tried every feature I can find on the map menu but all I can do is turn of the menu or turn off map markers. This is the exact opposite of what I am trying to achieve. Is there anyway to get markers on the compass without mods in 1.0? If so how (in detail) do I do this?

Player do appear in the compass. But sometimes it doesnt work, especially on a dedicated multiplayer server.

There is no way to add them manually, which is a royal pain in the ass.

you can add them on map and select how far they can be seen

@Jack-o-Lantern unfortunately the feature you are describing is really map stamps not default map markers. There is no way I have found to edit a default map marker with a simple word like "iron" or "base2" or get it to appear on the compass at any distance. What you have to do is "add new marker" go through 1/2 a dozen menus in order to make notes of any kind on a map marker. Only this feature allows you to set compass distance. Its a pain and has to be done every time you want a marker on the map. Each menu in the interface has to be populated by hand every single time. This is a lot of work to make a single marker with a single word of text that will appear on the compass. I'm baffled why the game does not allow standard markers to appear on the compass or have any custom text.

The wiki refers to Markers and Stamps, but doesn't do a good job explaining the difference or how to actually use them.

When you open the map screen, it refers only to stamps.
When you go to the key bindings, it refers only to to markers.

If there is some distinction here, I don't know why you would have 2 different things. If they are the same thing, why are they referred to by different names.

I can see no option for naming markers/stamps or setting how far away you can seem them. The old system for beacons just seemed vastly superior even though you had to craft them. I never had any problem with that.

I never played update 8, most of my play time was on update 6 with some on update 7. Returning to the game for 1.0 seems like a step backwards. If I can't place markers I can see on my compass then exploration I really don't see how I can have any fun with this. If I can do it, why is the UI so obtuse? Even placing a stamp was a major pain with several trips in and out of the key binds screen to figure it out and some trial an error to be able to place a stamp directly where I was standing. This wasn't helped by the fact that the map does not zoom in far enough.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Why so much of the UI and key bindings are devoted to stamps, which are essentially useless, and so little to the markers is beyond me.

Why the keybindings refer to markers when they mean stamps is very confusing. You can't create markers outside the map, only stamps.

Why the markers are hidden by default, instead of infinite by default makes no sense. If you are going to the hassle to create a marker, surely you want it to be visible.

The map zoom is awful and makes placing markers where you want them difficult.

As far as I can tell, the centre of the player marker on the map is your actual location. This is confusing because there is a little arrow pointing out of the circle and logic would say that that is the player's actual location. So if you want a marker where you are standing, you have to open the map and manually centre a marker in the middle of the player marker.

I still just can't see the logic of having 2 very similar things, and even the devs seem confused because the terminology is mixed up in game and the wiki writers are unable to succinctly describe the difference.

This is not the only UI issue I've had returning to the game. For a game that was so long in development, I expected more from a 1.0, which I suspect was more a marketing exercise that any actual statement as to the quality of the game. Well that's the state of the games industry, everything is a beta.

Because they're not useless.

Stamps are just that: meant to be (quickly) used to mark / "stamp" an area you're interested in because of the terrain feature. This is why you can very quickly add stamps (one key + mouse button press) and why they're only themed after terain features.

The way I see it is that stamps were designed so that you can even quickly stamp a hostile area before running away and afterwards you'll still recognize what you marked out.

Stamps are only meant to stamp / mark terrain features. You can also note that they don't appear on your compass by default so that you won't cause extra clutter.

Stamps are great to quickly mark a cave entrance, radioactive areas and/or uranium, ore nodes, water, etc. With the emphasis on quickly.

Agreed, that is definitely an oversight which hasn't been addressed so far it seems.

I think it makes a lot of sense: avoiding unwanted clutter. I actually keep some markers around that are only visible on the map but not my compass. In fact... I even used the menu to customize the behavior of some of the default markers as well. For example... plants which also have a drone port don't need both the drone port and the map marker to be visible on the compass, but I still want to keep the map marker around so that I'll always have a useful indicator should I somehow decide to remove the drone port in the future.

Just because you don't see a use for some features doesn't automagically make them useless ya know.

How many markers do you realistically want to throw down. The map and compass gets so crowded I end up turning most of it off anyway. One for all the different factories you set up makes sense, but it's not like you are cranking out factories, unless you are labelling everything after the fact.

Slightly off-topic but you can add a stamp without going into the map by holding Alt+RMB. It will put a stamp on whatever your reticle is pointing at.

I am now in my 7th playthrough and every time I create 250 carefully set map markers with a color and symbol code for each resource.

It would be awesome if we could export and import map markers from one game into the next. That would save me in future dozens of hours.

@CascadeHush I appreciate your frustration, I'm not clear what extra complexity makes placing a marker on an overhead map so much more difficult to implement in Satisfactory than other titles. Overall however, I am very happy with the game. A lot of potential here.

@ShelLuser I avoid clutter after I build a miner on a resource or collect it I delete the marker.

@luntacarsus great tip and not unrelated!

@GordonGekko concur. I was worried that I would have to make a large number of customer markers to display a single word and get a compass ping and you have confirmed I will. Oh well, still an enjoyable game.
