Biomass/biofuel problem
Hi there,

I'm new to the game and have a problem with biomass/biofuel. As I wanted to do 100% efficiency from the beginnging and the nodes are a bit spread on my spot, I had to build 3 biomass generators. In addition I have the two generators at the HUB. Now here is the problem: the only thing I do right now is running around the map and gathering leaves and wood as one generator is always empty. I have the solid biofuel by now but it takes so much time until it is produced even when doing it via constructor.
Is there any tip or trick as to keep them running without constantly running around for leaves and stuff? I kills the fun for me a bit.

leaf efficiency is garbage, bio mass it all, set up 1 constructor with a storage at each end and keep feeding it leaves n then wood, i'd manually make some biomass at the start. Leaves are evil. when the power does go out you should have a nice reserve from your constructor n top it up with more easy to get leaves

A tip that i didn't click to when i first started playing is you can press space bar on the craft bench for continuous production, i used to weight my mouse lol

I already do all of that. I'm constantly running out of biomass and/or fuel with the 5 generators all together.
I'm only gathering leaves for biomass/biofuel to keep them running. It's annoying.

do you have the chain saw yet? that wipes out large chunks of leaves and wood in 1 hit, i usually have 2 constructors, one doing leaves n another doing wood, dropping into the same storage, do you have bio fuel or just biomass? biofuel is much better and push for coal power asap, biofuel is a pain for sure.

if you have biofuel don't waste your time on biomass or plain leaves or wood, just biofuel the lot

In the beginning it can be tough to keep power going. Try to rush unlocking the chainsaw, it can be loads more effective to gather wood and leaves that way. After that having a constructor or two to automate solid biofuel can save loads of time. Then all you have to do is go out for about five minutes every hour or so and load up the constructor/storage box. More likely than not you'll have quite a few bio gens to keep up with before you get to a self sufficient power generator, and it can be tedious.

Yeah, I have the chainsaw already. But I had to go sleeping shortly after I unlocked it so I couldn't really test it.
Will try that, thanks!

I can only echo what others have said about the chain saw and automating biofuel production. I have two storages where I just dump leaves in one and wood in the other and it goes to a biomass buffer storage then to a constructor for biofuel and dumps it into storage. I run around for a few minutes with the chainsaw now and again and have more than enough(and I got like ten biofuel generators from my setup I have yet to get rid of).

Run 3 constructors, one running on leaves, and the second on wood - both feeding the third producing solid. The first 2 should be feed by storage containers.
Then build a LOT of generators, the more you have, the slower they burn their fuel.

Thanks to you all. That are very useful tips!

Forget the biomass burner Research further to the coal
and also go to coal-fired power plants.
I have not even supplied them with biomass on a regular basis
they are only an annoying evil for the entry.

Biomass burners only burn what is needed, so if you want your fuel to last longer, you need to build more burners than you need. As mentioned above, it also helps to have a dedicated production producing solid biomass from your wood and leaves.

A full stack of solid biofuel in a biomass generator will run a 1:1 power generation to usage ratio for 50 minutes. However, if you scale your generators over your usage, the frequency at which you need to fill your generators is greatly reduced. If you are using 100 power, but build generators to produce 1000 power, your runtime increases to over 8 hours per filling.

Yes, that does require that you have the biomass supply to fill the burners, and you are unlikely to get that stockpile built up if you started in either the rocky desert or grass fields. Northern Forest is by far the easiest biomass start while the two oases in the dune desert can also set you up nicely. For those other starts, rushing coal is far more important.

If you feel up to it, you can also murder enemies and turn their corpses into biofuel. Depending on which enemies you find, it can be a very fast way to get loads of biofuel. Also, automate turning it into biofuel, use the chainsaw, and definitely build over a dozen biomass burners to reduce the time each individual one takes to deplete their fuel.

I had only 5 biomass burners
the two at the stroke and three in addition and fastest possible to the coal here some stay far too long in this stage.

That's really easy to say if you already know what you are doing. If you don't then this is a very foolish thing to try to do when you are still figuring everything out.

There is also a mod called "Refined Power" that lets you hook up conveyors to Automated Biomass Generators. This allows you to avoid the micro-management of the vanilla biomass burners. Use your chainsaw to chop down a forest (which nets wood and leaves) and deposit into containers that feed constructors (to make solid fuel) then into the ABG's. That will give you more time to work on advancing to coal.

The best option is to build as few machines as possible and do a lot of work at the workbench. Then do targeted research on the coal energy. As soon as you can build coal-fired power plants, it's over with collecting biomass.
