According to the wiki, the Chainsaw (somewhat counter-intuitively) can be used clear some small rocks.

I think every small rock can be removed and most large, low-texture grey rocks. The obvious round boulders also.

Blow them up.

If there are no plants next to the small rock, the chainsaw won't be able to remove them, but you can still blow them up once you have the detonator and noblisks.

Ah, beans. Thanks anyway. You wouldnt happen to know if there is a reason to build a base right? Like i can unlock walls and stuff but im just wondering if there is a reason to use them. Just for looks or do i get attacked?

as it stands trees and likely bushes are bugged will respawn in 20-30 mins if blown up as for removing them with chain saw ya lost cause may as well be unlimited number of them spawned inside each other your never going to cut it down and it is a known bug

The different style walls are mainly for looks, the hostile mobs don't re-spawn near active machines, and unlocking the explosives is in the MAM terminal, you kind of need them anyway to remove the cracked rocks and gas plants blocking paths

I recall that it is possible to destroy rocks (I'm not sure if it matters what size they are) with the nobelisk explosive (unlocked by researching sulfur) and now is a perfect time to get your stores of nobelisk ammunition up as the ficsmas event snowballs are dirt (or should i say snow) cheap and they stack much better than good old nobelisk ammunition

Foundations are good to build because it gives a level area to build on, and things snap to a grid.

Walls are good to build, as there are attachments you can add to them. Conveyor wall poles to run conveyors along walls (freeing up some floor space), and wall power outlets that connect to walls and foundations (the bottoms and sides) that may help in running electricity. There is also a wall outlet that passes through walls. Not actually necessary (electrical lines can clip through things), but it does provide 4 attachment points on each side of the wall.

Walls also give places to attach belts (conveyor walls), pipelines (both floor and wall attachments), and hypertubes (also floor and wall attachments).

And also for looks.

With "Boulder" those big round rock that look "out of place" can be blow up by explosion researched in MAM sulfur tree.
And for those terrain rock, I don't think you can remove it at all.

You can remove the small rocks, I blew up a bunch of those that were inside my main factory. They can even be removed with the chainsaw if a plant of some kind is next to it.

and multifloored factories, sometimes adding a 2nd or third floor makes more sense than just spreading out more.
Also it can look cooler :)

I would also recommend leaving gaps between floors. Having the belts mostly hidden looks nice and clean. Plus if you need to load balance you have more space to mess around with belts.

IDK how we got from rocks to this, but +1!

I build an interstitial below every floor now for exactly that. It works wonders and makes everything easier to route and better to look. Win win!

Before version 5, when you use a chain saw at a plant very close to a rock ( or a few rocks ) you were able to extract some limestone from those rocks. But in version 5, you can not get any limestone, it is just remove the rocks and get nothing in return.
